Uncopyable notes

Postby Rob Maule » Sun Oct 05, 2003 6:11 am

Nick and I came up with an idea. Instead of only being able to set a note as uneditable, how about uncopyable? This way you could create unique works of art.

Why do we need art?
It's fun. And they could be worth different amounts of money to different people. An ex-soldier would like a certain painting better than a travelling bard. Plus it would be fun for the painter.

How would we stop copy-paste?
Insert code to not allow it. And right-clicking and viewing the source for that matter. While we're at it, can you disable print screen?

How do you make artwork in-game?
A simple painting program could be brought up and saved to the server. There would probably have to be a limit on number of pictures per day. Or you would need special tools, like brushes or an easel.

How do you make colors?
Using a mortar and pestle to grind up resources. Like carrots for orange, roses and clay for red, coal for black, etc. Then you could use a certain amount of paint (or dye), depending on how large the painting is. And this could also apply to dying fabric for clothes! Also, add more flowers for more colors.

What if things start to erode one day?
Then you could build frames. They'd need wood, glass, a few grams for the hook and nail, and a hammer or mallet maybe.

What about pictures already made?
Turn them black and white until someone redraws them with some color. That would mean you could set it to be editable, but not copyable. :-D

That's about all we've got.

New form on note. Maybe when you click on write a note you come to a scroll box that has options like note/art/Ultra Minimax 3-D Movie. Ok well that last one doesn't count, but you get the idea and when you click paint it brings you to a type of paint program that lets you use your colors and ink (which I think should be added as a resource).

disableing?!?!?!?!

 I really don't like the disabling part print screen and cut and past happen to be something I do a lot cause I s*ck at typing that and I'm not very creative like that but I do like to admire things and some times I like to save it to my computer. Have you ever saved a picture from a website and put it as your background? :?
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

this could just apply to notes with pics on them...maybe you could just ask the person who drew it to send it to you....it'd prolly not be as good as it should be though, considering we won't have everything that a regular art program has....

I'm happy with just uploading images I want to use on Cantr, but a non-copy option would be good, stopping all the stuff you said also. It wouldn't stop people copying by hand ie typin out by hand and redrawing based on the image, but that happens in RL so isn't a problem

Since some characters are happy to get huge lumps of coal, I don't see why they wouldn't be happy seeing 'poorly' drawn pictures. Sometimes it's more than what it looks like. It's what it represents. The people of Drojf loved Silly's stickman picture.

Exactly. We have counterfeits of artwork all the time.

This idea is probably the best idea I've heard yet on these boards...I'm actually excited about it....if it gets implemented....
