ANimal attacks

Postby Henkie » Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:23 am

I am here to complain greatly about the new animal attack system.
I have a char (a Dutch one) living with his beloved together in a town, now they got the animal population down from 30 dingo's to 5. From 20 bearded swines to 9 and from 20 black rhino's to 15. This reduction over the coarse of about 7 or 8 cantr years finally reduced the animal attacks enough for them to actually manage to do something.

Now, without any warning, any method of coping, or any way to have been prepared for it, animal attacks have been happening at a rate of about 500% of the original.
I logged of yesterday evening (8 hours ago) with 14% damage.
I wake up and boom

I have a 70% damage bar...

This is wrong, it's a slow paced game! SLOW
How can someone almost get killed over night... In a slow paced game?

3562-0.05: Je wordt aangevallen door een baardzwijn en verliest 11 procent kracht. Je redde 17 procent door je ijzeren schild.

The fun does not end...

Can you translate events to english? Or just give animal species related with any event in english.

For dingo 5 is overcrowded.. Their are more agressive in that kind of situation. Before you have bug in animal limit per location and this is a reason why you have so many animals.
Black rhino's == 15, totaly overcrowded.
Bearded pig - this same situation.
You try living in place, where you have many dangerous animals, and all are overcrowded. This is a reason why you have some problems. Like we speak on IRC, nobody increase animal attack chance to 500%, it just work better now. I think animal attack chance should be decrease, but not too much. You location is very danger and it's a problem.

the dingo's attacked twice on one day aswel... I believe that is not normal?

This is normal, but just a small chance for it. But not very small. If you have, for example, 25% chance to attack in one day it's mean that you have 3,125% (25/8) chance for attack per any turn.

BTW. I think animal vital should be decrease 3-9 x times for some species..

-------------------------
With this animal in reality you won't have chance to LIVE to long ;) I believe that in real you could be dead much faster (because this is slow game).

Then should I right to Echoman or Doug to ask to reduce the number? Because I can not live there anymore, while I could have with the old (bugged) script. We build that place up and have all kinds of things there, we reduced the animals and still are doing it but how are we supposed to cope with the current problem which is caused by this change?

In my view my character is just being screwed by the new game mechanics now...
There has been no time to adjust to the new system and apparently they are heavily overcrowded because of a second bug..?

With old bug in many location people have 100x dingos etc., and this was reduced.
I think this would be fair if we down animal population in you village - before you spend much time to decrease population and you not have effect from this now.
You should speak about this with Doug, or better, like we speak on IRC, write message by Cantr support system to Resources Departament.

I have read all the complaints and started a discussion topic in GAB. We will probably adjust the numbers somehow.

Somewhat related. I know the opportunity for animals to attack was increased to every hour (?). As much as I hate to complain about animal aggression, I think something needs to be adjusted to balance the higher chances of attack. There used to be a way to keep populations in check so that they were not disruptive. I've tried this in one location - getting the population of the aggro beasts down to the level where they used to stop attacking before, but it's not helping. It looks like the only way to control animal attacks now is to eliminate the aggressive species. That's really not a good option. :(

Now smaller population just have smallest chance to attack, but attack still.

The problem is that the new animal system is using the old attack values. In the old system, attacks were 3x per day, and the %s needed to be grossly inflated due to the algorithm used. Also, since maxed out populations are more aggressive, and this is the natural state of these populations, it's increasing attacks even more. I've advised EchoMan to write a quick script to set all attack values to zero until I have time to adapt them to the new system.

I've manually eliminated aggression in Henkie's animals.
