Has anyone been a successful criminal?

Has anyone been successful at being a criminal for an extended period?

I had one who stole a bunch of stuff then sailed ages away and pretends to be a good guy.

Not mine, but Calico Jack is one I think. There's quite a few.

I had people indiscriminantly slide stuff away from small towns. :D

I've had opportunities, but I tend to pitch them either because they don't look good or because the character is too honest.

Since without a vehicle the only really practical form of crime is the deep-infiltration theft approach (I think) you can't really be a criminal for an extended period without equipment.

So...no, I haven't, despite my best efforts

Note thieves never last, so I hate it when they still think they can get away...

When you say you have two successful right now. Does that mean they are in their thirties and fourties and still going strong, or does that mean they just shoplifted a few potatoes and they still live?

I have a thief character, and I'd say he's pretty good at what he does. I guess. He takes educated risks when he steals. He was recently in "a location" (Which I won't mention, because if you know my characters, you'll know this person!) and he acted good there, to get by. However, in several locations before hand, where the calculated risk was acceptable (Ie: Study the weapons the people use when they attack, notice how weak they currently are, and the amount of people and what times most of them are awake) - Steal things, run off. Any presuiers get a nice sabre cut into them, several have died chasing him. He has robbed about... four or five places so far, I believe, where all his wealth is from. He always seems to get out alive.

He recently seen a boat that he was tempted to dock on, however, he kept sailing. He figures: If the boat is large enough to dock on, then the people on board ought to be well equipped with steel weapons - since the boat required steel. Meaning, the calculated risk was unacceptable. However, I'm sure one day he'll do something stupid and wrong and get himself killed. No matter. I wonder if anyone has found his stash yet... *Snicker*

1. Robbed her home town of steel, iron, and some pretty good weapons. She is still alive and looking for the next town to terrorize. She has been stealing and killing while travelling around. I can't recall right now her age....near or above thirty.

2. It started out of neccesity (food), but is moving on to bigger and better things. She is still young but I have high hopes for her.

I have had three criminal characters. Not just thieves, more swindlers. And not violent and all. One of them became a man in his fourties, but he was killed by violent robbers himself. Two others I still have, one in his sixties and one in his twenties. The old one is quite rich and powerful, that's all I can say. The young fellow is a coming man.

I had a successful pirate for a while. He would just dock in a town, raid it and escape before anyone had a chance to do anything. UNfortunately once he wasn't quick enough and he was caught and killed. He had everythign he needed on his boat including a large iron and steel supply as well as lots of food.

I currently have a character who is a bit of a kleptomaniac and travels the world stealing something from every town. Sometimes he has to stay in a town for a while until he is trusted enough, and then, when he gets the chance he just grabs stuff and legs it. He has a list of everything he has stolen and from where.

He has been close to being caught though. Once he was imprisoned but was released because as far as they knew it was his first crime. He wasn't even made to give the stuff back.

I think he is becoming a bit more wary now though and he may settle down with his stash of stuff. Or maybe he will just build himself a house to store everything in and continue his theft.

Yes.

1 is still going strong, amazing no one has tried to come after him.

2 retired and sold his useless goods for things that would benefit him.

One of my chars stole some wood and food when he first spawned, and then left immediately. He wasnt chased. Which was surprising, as it was in a place which chases a lot of criminals.

That same char has also waited for the last person in a location to die and stolen her things.

He's not a professional thief, just a slightly-dishonest trader...

One of my characters is currently disguised as a goodly tailor, but is preparing for a bout of organised plundering, when he aquires some allies and a boat. However he is pretty good hearted and will be more of a robin hood figure, stealing small amounts from the rich and sharing it with poorer people.
Another is a barbarian raider, who is travelling the swamps looking for food and animals. Not really criminal but still likely to be treat as one. Due to his name.
