Re: Thinking about quitting.....
Not disrupting the game is one of the proposed rules. Any resurrection would be done in coordination with the PD to minimize disruption. It's not like we'd just bring someone back to life and say "have at it."

How the person died would effect how they played it off. Sea burials would be pretty simple, just say they were tossed adrift and left for dead, but managed to wash ashore still alive, possibly with amnesia. XD

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
There are but 2 I would resurrect, but then again, they died so long ago, those they knew or most, are long dead... it would be to hard and painful to try and replay them, even if they rez'd them on another island where they had never been.. so I would have to opt for something else, not resurrection. I think this thread was taken far astray.
Quitting, not this time, or at least not yet. If it gets to stressful, I let them sleep for a few days, no prob.

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
Seems like alot of ooc temptations reside in these and it would have to be watched. I have only lost one char, but if he came back and became a polish pirate hunter...wouldn't that be ooc? Or if he just happened to kill the guy who slept with his also dead wife? Wouldn't there be suspicion?
I think it would take some special players to be eligible for such a thing. Those who quit because they lost a char are still gone, maybe you could bring them back (the player) but who knows? Those who are still here despite losing a char...They are still here.

Uh oh!! I died before you though!
Just checked the forums wondering how Cantr was going and saw this, so figured I should provide some responses
Shitzupac was very sad when Addie died
I was Calabria of the Circle of Friendship - Did anyone ever take over my ship and trade routes?
I bet Katie Angel lives till the end of time. Is she one of the oldest characters?
Maybe I will check this again sometime, but I hope you are all doing well!

Last I knew the ship was being sailed by the 4th captain of the ship since Puddle met it. He always looked out for the Friendship to see that it was passed down the way it was intended. The last captain he saw to take it was a young man with very good manners.

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
The thought is crossing my mind frequently nowadays. Well, the majority of the time I /do/ think about Cantr anymore. I'm sure it's a phase, though, especially since March is such a busy month for me this year with band and state tests and homework and whatnot.
But it's not just that. Even in my spare time I don't want to play Cantr as much anymore. I finished a significant portion of Atlas Shrugged (I cleared the philosophical radio speech essay in just a few hours) over the weekend, started another book, and finished that book along with its sequel today. I plan to start its second sequel tomorrow.
The things that keep me from unsubbing now. I have no drive to go to the website to hit the button. Also I feel somewhat of a sense of duty for my characters. Some have made promises not to die. Others have other jobs to do. I think I would feel guilty if I/my characters went back on their words. But not guilty enough to let them live decent lives.
We'll see.

Seems like there's a mini-cycle where membership declines during school semesters, then picks up again in the summer when people have more free time again.

I think it's that (RedQueen's point), and the possibility that, as membership changes, so does the 'feel' of the game, and this is what people ultimately respond to most.
It's what I am responding to and sadly, it won't be good for (definitely) 6 of 8 chars. Possibly all of them.
I have been thinking of quitting for a long long time, am finding playing quite a chore now.
That said... I find the game has a massive 'pull', and it is very difficult to escape.

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
Thinking about it, I know I have one person I definitely would want to bring back... Sigh. I honestly think that'd be cool. And they already had amnesia to start. XD

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
There are a few characters I would love to have back, but I think that doing something like this would be killing one of the main qualities of Cantr, and that a characters death is final. Having that mortality is what makes people actually care about there characters. How many of you would actually still care about these characters if death was not final for them?
A dangerous precedent that, if done, will probably ruin the game for quite a few.

Re: Thinking about quitting.....
Let's be honest, resurrection would totally change the basis of Cantr. Sure, I have characters I'd like to have back. But they are dead and that is that.
Over the last 8 and a half years, I've had many characters and many different experiences. The perma-death of Cantr is a key part of that.
