The hour of play time can be stretched pretty far, to the point where you'll rarely run out. The things to remember are that you don't lose time by being on the portal page or if you don't interact with the interface on a character page. You can enter the world with one of your characters, read up on everything that's going on, and type up a response in a text program of some sort. Then, go back to the portal page, enter your character again, and paste in the response you typed up. It seems a bit tedious, but it'll become second nature after a while.

Letting a character with poor stats die is generally considered a cop-out. Some people do let their characters die if they have bad stats, but you can have a perfectly fulfilling experience without great stats. Survival is easy since all you need is food. Hunting isn't a necessity (in most places), though there are cultures that might require it and cultures that revere strength, but that doesn't mean that you can't fit in to one of those. You might also want to be careful moving through mines with a low-stat character, but that's something most people have to be careful with.

I just discovered my baby can forage... though I don't know if that will keep her from starving. Is it bad form to indicate that you need to eat in a pose? I.e. I put in one of mine the sound of 'a softer growl sounding from her tummy hollowly' while she was laughing over being bounced. She's only been given food once since being born, and is at Famished again, so I'm a little worried.

Don't worry too much about starvation. I'm pretty sure it takes two weeks to starve from being stuffed and I know that starving to dead takes six days, so it's a pretty slow process. Absolutely indicate through emotes that your character is hungry - you don't even have to specifically mention it in the emote. Sometimes it can be more fun for your baby to scream and cry while the parents scramble around trying to figure out what's wrong, though food is usually the first response.

Foraging won't keep a baby from starving because of the way the game handles resources and objects. A food resource has to be turned into a food object before it can be eaten. Starting at age 1, you can help with projects to turn resources into objects, but you can't start your own until age 3, so you're dependent on your family or whoever is around you to stay alive as a baby.

Ewww...!

And apart from that, wouldn't people see you? I don't want to be the new 'demon baby' that someone hacks up with a sword.

It's generally not done, I'm starting to wonder where your char was born, Bryan...

RPing yourself being hungry and munching on all kinds of things help a lot too. And check the containers of the place to see if any hold food.

CHUD is a reference to an old horror movie of... questionable quality, and stood for carnivorous humanoid underground dwellers, as I recall. :)

When you successfully forage, does it put whatever you found on the ground, or in your inventory? I'm assuming inventory, and that I haven't successfully foraged yet... but I wanted to check. I've tried it a bunch of times now, and even had the skill rise to 'Skilled' but haven't seen it actually result in anything. Wondering if I just missed the announcements...
