I agree. But what percentage of new players actually check out the Wiki I wonder. The easier we make it for them the better for all of us who have to play with them. (I mean have the privilege of playing with them, of course). And might help with retention if a higher percentage actually do figure out how to play earlier on.

Most games force people to read small tutorial notes before they allow clicking on anything.

I can't tell you how well those links work, but at least that they work.

How do you know? If you don't know how many people are coming to the Cantr website from these voting sites, the number could be zero.

I found Cantr from one of those sites back in 2006 when players still received credits for voting. So the number is more than zero. You could also look at the "Unique Out" column on the Cantr page of some of those sites and see how many people followed the link to Cantr.

On the subject of tutorials, I do think it's a great idea if someone wants to put it together. A YouTube video would be ideal, but as Theda said, every single new (English) player from the beginning of November on is being contacted and encouraged to share their game experience and to ask questions, etc. So if there's anything they don't understand all they have to do is ask and someone from PR will be available to answer or direct them to the appropriate links.

*sighs* About two months ago I posted that I might make a YouTube video 'in at least two weeks'... SORRY! I've had way too much going on.

Back on topic. The video I was.. i mean -am- going to make would be part ad, part introduction, part tutorial. My only problem is I've only made 'gameplay' videos using a certain program, so now I have to get a different program that will record -anything- that's going on on my computer instead of just games.. you know what I mean? Like -real- games... :P JK JK I wouldn't be here if I didn't love it.

I think first it should be noted down of what's important to put in an tutorial for new players to know. I think, how they can join projects or start them and also about food and healing food the difference, and I did notice some do think that deaths are random so that might be a good thing to also make clear. And very important might be the tip of trying to move to other towns if the town they spawned in isn't active or ignoring new spawns, as for new players that must be a big factor of the reason to stop.
There is no rule that says I can't post as much I want. I asked my lawyer.

I agree. I will definitely make a -full- tutorial video as well. I'll try to get a good start on the first next week.. It will probably take me awhile because I tend to fuss over little things.. But don't get excited, that doesn't mean I'm -good- at this kind of thing. But I'll do my best.

I've been wanting to get more into animation lately, so if I ever get around to it, I might try making a how-to-play-Cantr tutorial.

Two problems:
1. I'm not an animating genius. I only said I could try to make a tutorial. It probably won't be anything terribly special.
2. I have my own YouTube account. 8)
