Anyway, the problem here in Finland is that there is no civilized, social drinking. The only reason to by beer is to get drunk. There is this joke about Finns that says quite a lot:

There were two Finnish guys, old friends who met after living in separate towns for a long time, and decided to go to spend some time on the other guy's summer cottage. So they bought beer by crates and went to the cottage, sat there, went to sauna and sat on the porch drinking for many days. Then the other guy said: "So, how's you're wife?" The other one glanced at him, a bit annoyed and said: "Didn't we come here to drink or what?! Enough with that chit-chat..."

Haha, that sounds like the stories we Swedes have about people from "Norrland".

But hey, I've done some good business there so I'm not complaining. The good day's are over tho. Russians spoiled the market. :(

On the other hand, Sam, you're not quite old enough to buy it yet...

In america is the age of buying alcohol 21, right?

Here it is 16. But even if a 10-year old could buy some in a store or cafe people don't say "no".
They just wanna make money :? ...

That brings up, something I wonder for years...

In america you can drive a car yourself when your 16 and have a license (you can start with 15 1/2)...
You can drink alchohol when your 21....

I think riding a car is more dangerous (for you and others) then drinking... (although combined it is even more dangerous)

People can be tought to drive a car with skill so that the risk of accidents is lower. However they do not teach the proper use of alcohol in any school. And even if people knew how to drink just enough to get social, not too much, the results aren't same with everyone. It's all about physiology. Some people get addicted more easily.

It's society's fault

You're right, they don't teach how to be 'mature' with alcohol at school. In most of europe, apart from the UK, there's a fairly relaxed attitude to drink. It's seen as part of life. In France for example, they drink wine with their meals, teenagers will often get a small glass of wine at meals in many famillies. It's the same elsewhere. As a result, kids grow up and see alcohol as good, in moderation. In the UK, and in the US, there's a glorification of getting totally pissed and drunk, as if it's a good thing. Yeah, it's a laugh every now and then, but they seem to forget that being drunk is by far the least of what alcohol is about...

Anyway, in Finland the big age is 18, both for getting a driving licence, buying alcohol and all... Though there is a limitation of the alcohol percentage, the strongest alcohols aren't sold until the age of 21, I think. There are shops and kiosks that sell beer and cider to minors and the word spreads, so almost everybody has a chance of illegal underage drinking if they really want to.
