Ah well, one could of course create a day length slightly different from a real life day, so that the nights shifts one hour every day

Exactly, the problem is the timezones. I could perhaps have programmed night and day, but then some players will always be online during the night, making it very odd for them to properly roleplay.

it's a little strange, though, that everyone, no matter where they play from, goes quiet all at the same time. I guess being on the west coast of north america, myself, and logging on at 8:30am would be when the people in europe would be getting home from work, and then when I get home, everyone seems a little quiet, unless they're in NA, as well.
i just find it kind of eerie...

As could be determined from my forum behavior lately, I'm on cantr all day. Since I have a summer job, that means playing from work... Don't feel bad about it, since there are intermittant Rise of Nations LAN games where I work (which I don't participate in).
It's a lot harder for me to get online from home.

Well they all eat at around 2pm GMT so I see that as lunch time, which is when I go for lunch at work
I've just got mobile internet on my phone (Internet Explorer) so I can log in anywhere and see how they're doing, much to the dismay of my girlfriend when she's asking me what this top looks like... She's always like "Are you picking potatoes again?" She knows nothing!
