Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Just a thought...
A brain is composed of gray matter and white matter, contained within the cranium. It controls and regulates the body functions. It recieves and then interprets impulses, delivers information to the bodies organs and muscles. The brain is the center for thoughts, ideas, memories and emotions. Life cannot be sustained without the brain. ( minus the ability we have to replace the brain with machines.)
The mind , however, is far different. The brain processes information, but it is the mind that uses that information. Refering to thoughts and emotions. Think of your own ideals, and why someone else would disagree... a function of mind, not brain. We have the ability and capability to understand the brain, but not the mind, even though psychology claims the ability.. they can only guess, educatedly, yes, but still. Consider writers.. like King and Koontz. They write with their mind, not the brain. Serial killers... cult members, your best friend, your enemy. The mind is a deep and scarey place really...
sorry.. I got bored... (hehee help me find my mind?)

We would understand the mind perfectly well... if science hadn't given us the brain, and convinced us that we understand that.

has anyone ever had a boss (in a professional job) that gave them directives which were dishonest and against their morals? i am putting a stand up against my boss, and could use advice from anyone that has been in such a position.

If you would lose your job in the worst case, would it have been worth it? You are the only one who possibly knows the answer to that question.

it could result in that, yes. but i would never sacrifice my morals for the sake of my job. i could get my job back anywhere i went, as its high in demand. im seeking advice more in how to handle my "defiance" most professionally and most successfully.

It's hard to say, without knowing the personalities (And situations) involved, but have you tried a simple, "I'm sorry, but I don't in good conscience feel I can do what you are asking of me. Is there something else that I could do for you instead?" And be willing to suggest substitute solutions for their dilemma.
(btw, does it rise to the level of "illegal"? Because reporting to the appropriate authorities becomes, ISTM, a moral imperative in that case, if you can't talk the boss out of whatever it is.)

me = non confrontational to the extreme, quiet spoken, but passionate about my job to the point that i will not do as the boss is asking me
boss = verbally aggressive, very confrontational, never wants to take the blame for anything, very pushy and insistent
situation = wont go into details, but boss is asking me to do something that is dishonest. claims that the directive she is giving me is a directive from her own superiors.
stood up to her this morning, but she called me back to her office to chew me out again this afternoon. so no, she wont back down. and is writing me up for disobeying her directive.

I hate to say it, but tendering your resignation might be the only thing to do, since (if what your boss says is true), this comes from the top. I worked for a corporation that was shut down by the federal govenrment rather soon after I left (although I knew nothing about the shenanigans they were engaged in, and my leaving had nothing to do with it. But I had I known, I would have left earlier).

Personally, my job is not worth anything if I have t be dishonest to complete it, I would again stand up and say it compromises my beliefs to do that, Being dishonest for your boss may keep you in good standings, but sets you up to also take the fall for him/her should the higher ups really not know about what is going on.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
thats exactly whats going on sunni. i told her if she wants this thing done, she can do it herself, but she said no. so i asked her how she can then expect me to do it if even she is not willing to do it. apparently, it is illegal if she does it, and not illegal if i do it. however, that doesnt make it morally right one bit.
she doesnt want to take the fall for this though, so shes trying to pressure me into doing this thing, which is -extremely- dishonest.
edit:
as for your comment, gejyspa, i dont know if its coming from the top like she says or not. im thinking of calling the top and asking them, but if they hear she said that and its not true, they will be pissed, confront her, and she will deny it. but if it -is- true, then i will recieve no support from them and dont know where to go from there.

At your next argument, hide a sound-recording device somewhere on your person so that yours and your boss's voices will be picked up clear enough to be able to decipher everything later.
Then again, I don't know if that's even legal by contract.

I don't know about that.. I think they have to be told they are being recorded.
Your choices vary..
Are you prepared to find new work? If yes, then first, research, on the net even, to see if what she says is true. (If it is illegal for the boss and not for you ) If it is illegal for you, then call the higher ups, what does it matter if they confront her, if you are ready to find new work anyways. Do you really wish to be associated with a company that does this? Document as much as you can, with a witness if possible.
