Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I woke up this morning at 8:30 am, after a 3 hours sleep. That wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that I should have been up an hour earlier. I use my mobile as alarm clock, and, seemingly, I turned the alarm off while being asleep, since I woke up with it in my hand. I barely made it to arrive in time for 5 minutes. Several incidents in a row in between, along with the fact that everyone just seemed to be acting stupid today, turned my mood angry and exasperated, and my back has cracked again.
Definitely, my sleeping -me- was telling me I shouldn't have got up today.

I've been very busy this week, between finishing the French anime series, homework, and band. I have a competition today, so I definitely won't be on any more today, for the sake of keeping my phone battery alive for any unforseen emergencies.

Snickie is double-posting because she is tired and would rather double-post than look for the tiny "edit" button and risk accidentally clicking "quote".
So, competition today in Inverness. There were some great bands there today, but enough about them.
We had a not-so-great run, and ended up scoring something around 65.11, and we needed ≥66. But we made it to finals. So we performed at finals, gave what everyone including my pessimistic band director thought was a great performance....and when the results were announced, we'd lost ~2 points...so now I'm stuck on the bus home trying to sleep through my friend's excessive, angry ranting. I admit, it was a slap to a sunburned face (which I have....yay raccoon face), a very confusing result. Maybe this panel judged more harshly (judging panels change between prelims and finals). Whatever. It is what it is. Good night.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Rant: I am getting so frustrated at my Psychology of Prejudice class. So far, it's been more like "Hey, white people, learn stuff." I had such high hopes when the semester started because it has an introspective focus. A lot of people came into it saying "Yo, I took this class because I'm not prejudiced and I've just always wondered why other people are" and I think it's really been helpful in dispelling that attitude, but it's been really focused on white people. Even the discussion topic for this week included the word "us," meaning only white people! What really made me throw my hands up in the air and come here to whine was seeing this from my professor on this week's topic: it is time we let other white folks know we will not be defined as a group by their racism any more.
Yes, these things focused on white people are important and, in the long run, I'm glad for people to be made aware of things like white privilege because they will likely go on to make other people aware of it, but it's still frustrating.
This week's topic already has one sort-of black guy in the class parading around and taking the same ridiculous, racist stance of this week's article and justifying it with "well, you'd understand if you were on the outside looking in." Of course, this was in response to someone that he assumed was white - because how could someone non-white possibly not agree with this BS - but is actually a minority group member.
ARGH. I need to stop thinking about this and go study for the test I have in my capstone class on Tuesday or go bake the cookies I promised my mother.

No good attempt at productivity goes unpunished. Got poison ivy...again. I think it's going to be BAD this time. That's what I get for caring about what my neighbors think of the overgrown shrubbery in my front yard.
Comy, I'm a little biased, but I think those sort of classes often do more harm than good. I dropped a class that was supposed to be about cultural awareness when all it did was reinforce the superstitions and misinformation that the students had about others.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
So, found out why our scores for finals were the way they were:
1. We were the first band to perform for this panel of judges. They'd not seen prelims, and therefore had nothing to compare our second performance to. To avoid setting the bar too high for the other bands, they gave us a really crappy score. All but two of the ten bands in finals received a lower score, actually.
2. Our band director attributes our performing first in finals to the fact that we apparently don't produce enough sound for a band our size, especially during prelims when we were missing two of our first trumpets (they'd been taking SATs, and apparently those testing sites didn't release the kids until twenty minutes before we went on-field to perform, and that site was an hour away). There were AA bands (30-45 winds) that were louder than we were, apparently (we're a AAA band (46-63 winds)). BD pointed out that the rest of the band should be able to produce enough sound to the point that when the first trumpets drop out to breathe, that half-second is filled with something else besides percussion. They are our "heroes" who try to carry the sound of the entire band (because the rest of them won't do their part). It was better the second time because by then everyone was there.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I overslept this morning and only woke up at 10 when I should wake up at 7 at latest. I called the teacher and she said there's no use coming to school since others are almost finished and I wouldn't have time to do anything anyway.
I was really looking forward to this day and now I completely ruined it.

I just wrote very detailed notes for 13 essay questions on one side of an index card with space left over:

Slightly less than an hour before this test. I can't wait for it to be over. I'm going to clean my kitchen and make celebratory pumpkin bread!

Went to the doctor today, finally, after years of not bothering. Laid out all my symptoms. He used some scary could-be words, but consolled me by saying that he wasn't going to try to pick one thing and pinpoint it, but rather work on eliminating things from the list of could-be's. So I have referrals to two specials (gastroenterologist, and neurologist) as well as monthly bloodwork monitoring, an MRI of ma brain, and a bunch of new medications to try.

Good luck with that... but your signature seems a bit outdated, although still technically accurate.

Just be sure to advocate for yourself and make sure all the tests are necessary. An MRI doses you with 1000X more radiation than an X-ray. It's not a trivial procedure.
