So, now it doesn't turn on. I've had it sitting in rice for 15 hours, gonna put it out in the sun today, a little later, and try to turn it on at around the 24 hour mark again. I think it's fried though. Yay, for the most unlikely situation killing my brand new Samsung Galaxy Q.

If it was on when it hit the water, it's fried, guaranteed. No amount of drying will save it, because the parts are fried. If it was off when it hit the water, and you tried to turn it on before it was dried, it's done. Otherwise, rice should work, from what I've read.

It was on when it hit, and i turned it on many times before it was dried. Took it out of the rice yesterday, works fine.

I actually found a lot of similar testimonials amongst friends and internet people. Someone who works for an electronic repair shop actually told a friend of mine that a lot of newer phones aren't damageable by water. It's the dirt and other particles that damge the phone bits. They actually recommend rinsing it out in distilled water then letting it dry a few days.

Edit: I don't know how much truth there is to that and no effin way am I gonna test it.

You know what, I really shouldn't have to be dealing with others' cock ups. I am on the brink of having a few of my own already, thanks but no thanks, I don't have any interest in wasting time on fixing that stuff. That was negligence for god's sake!

Today was the last day of four weeks of preparing for a huge data move at work, involving three datacenters in three different locations on the globe. It's been 12-16 hour days and quite a few weekends too lately. Tomorrow I have to be rested at work at 5:45 am and we'll work until everything is finished with the move. If everything goes according to plan, 8 hours. If not.... well, talk to you on monday.
