Note deleting

Postby grayjaket » Wed Oct 01, 2003 3:55 am

I think the author of a note should be able to delete it, I have so many notes with typos and stuff. Is there a way already to get rid of them? If not the author should be able to delete their own notes.

the simple, non-ideal solution is to keep them editable..that way when you're done with them you can delete them and reuse them.

It is also very common to have an envelope called 'Trash' in which you put all your useless notes.

One of my characters has just recently spotted a note dating back to the 200's. That's like anchient history to her when she was only born in the early 500's.

There are a lot of notes from the 200s it's just that no one knows what date they are from.

I can go two ways with the note thing as I do believe notes should be destroyed but I also see that people could abuse such a thing and delete notes in whole area and such and lose a lot of history though quite a few people lock up the history in labyrynths like the the Krif Storage Facility.

But if only the author could delete them it would be ok...see? Than people couldn't do things like that.

Then just keep the note editable if you're going to get rid of it later. Then you can just delete the contents and reuse the note.

What if instead of doing either of those things you could build a cabinet or similar to hold notes, you put your notes in lock them up and then when you want to see the notes you just look at them through a window.

There problem solved at least in theory.

A new function of the small fire pit, chimmny, oven, coal oven, smelting furnace?

"Burn notes" - 1g of wood required per note or envelop, produces 1g of ash or something if necessary per note or envelop. 100 notes an hour? 1 note minimum? Envelops must be empty. Possibly a seperate function for envelops.

Don't think Jos will ever agree to that.

Jos has argued in the past that he would never put a way to destroy notes in the game. I think he believes a lot of players would abuse this and destroy notes all the time but I'm not totally sure why. The only way a note can be destroyed is if it is left editable and the contents are deleted.

the idea of making a note un-editable is so that it can't be altered, or destroyed, so you can make history notes, and I think that is why Jos wants that, so people can make history notes that are un-editable
