Quoting entire previous post
Ok, I want to go on a deleting crusade against posts that quote the entire previous post, but before I do, I thought I'd have the good sense of finding out why you're all doing this before I pull out my ruler and start smacking your knuckles.

Context is important. Is space saving of a few bytes really that much of a problem, Doug?

Speaking of context, don't let the long-ish hair fool you, I am most certainly a dude.

That's your fault for changing your forum name to something with queen in it.
And, Doug, you had to know this topic was going to become a quotefest.

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what gender anyone here thinks I am, really, anyway.
And for the longest time I kept having to remind myself that Mojo is NOT a dude, given the first character of hers that I knew.
I did notice though that for some reason people cluster, either knowing mostly only female characters of mine, or primarily the male ones, and not many a mix of both. Weird.

Indeed, that's what happened.
(And yeah, I do know how to trim out unimportant context)

Sometimes people use it if they agree with somebody, but there were several posts between that post and the person's new post, so they quote the whole thing in order to specify which thing it is that they agree with it.
Some people are just too lazy to find the "Post Reply" button (although in my opinion, the "Quote reply" button is MUCH harder to find (and why does it look to me like a computer keyboard? What does that have anything to do with quote-replying?)).
I personally quote the entire thing, and then break it up into parts and in between each part I respond to it, like I'm doing right here and right now. It actually takes up more pixels on the page, but it keeps it organized for me and, hopefully, the other person. I admit to sometimes forgetting what we were talking about when I'm replying to messages and don't have the file right in front of me. Yes, I know I could simply scroll down; I'm just too lazy. :p
Edit: Blargh, you people who type infinitely less and faster than I do!

Don't fear.... PR Member here. I'll cut what seems to be out of place if you post the links right here

Re: Quoting entire previous post
I don't understand how there's a contextual problem when the post you're replying to is directly above. If it's not, I understand quotes are necessary, or if you're just replying to part, but when it's directly above, and you're replying to the whole thing...just annoying, imo. Start expecting your whole quotes to disappear. (is grumpy tonight)

Re: Quoting entire previous post
I try to remove redundant parts of posts I'm quoting, or not quote at all when I'm responding to the above post and it's clear from the context, or use a name when it's unambiguous, but I have been guilty of unnecessary entire-post-quoting in the past I suppose.
I support Doug's authoritarian rampage, if that is what makes him happy.
