Boat engine

Postby .::. MysticGötén .::. » Fri Jul 30, 2004 9:16 am

So far a boat engine hasn't been implemented yet. But you could imagine that when a boat has an engine and a propeller underwater or something it would go much faster.
New boats don't really have to be introduced for this, you should be able to make engine in certain boats like a raker or soarer, or smaller boats like a darter. So it would speed things up.

Perhaps some new boats can be made, like boats that are small, earodynamic and just creeping fast.

Currently most boats just have "sails" while there isn't even needed hide or cotton to make the sails and some boats need to be rown (or what ever the proper verb is) like the rowing boat. So how bout a boat with an engine (and propeller).
We have car engines, motor cycle engines, even helicopter engines without a helicopter for it, so a boat engine would not be completly impossible.

A while ago I heard a suggestion for sails). I don't think they're really in game yet. The talk was of a supplement sail to make it go faster.

I liked the idea, and the engine idea would suffice as well (only as a supplement, or else you'd have a lot of still boats)

As always when it comes to these modern ideas I'm strongly against it!

Keep Cantr medieval...cars and motorcycles aren't really modern...they have no gas. They are driven like in the Flintstones or something...yeah, that's right.

I actually agree with motors or masts, however...

Boats and Land vehicles are two different things. And there's this long calculaton for determining the speed of vehicles. A vehicle can end up having a speed between 1 and 100, or so, and a boat can have a speed from between 800 to 7000. (Those aren't limits, they're just current speeds of current vehicles)

By adding a motor or mast, with a speed that's NOT default (Ie: 1), then, by way of the calculation, the boat would go two (three, four, five, or whatever I put in) times faster. So then boats would be going 1600 to 14000 in speed.

Oh, yes, let's put a motor on a Raker and rip through the seas. Erm, no.

Masts will come when boats are built in pieces, however, they won't have motor aspects, and boats won't have motors. Yet. Sorry.

If I get it correct, there are no masts yet on boats? How come boats are so fast then? How do some boats even move? Rowing a raker looks a bit.... impossible  .

Perhaps the default speed could be set somewhat lower and masts and motors would would get it higher.

LoL, if the raker would get 3 or 4 times faster then now you would get around the cantr world in days  .

Perhaps you should build the mast and motor on a boat, when the boat itself is done, sort of an upgrade. If I am not mistaken that is how the old cars were build as well. Only they did not move without a motor while a boat could.

I've believed that masts exist on certain boats already, just as hilts had always existed on sabres and broadswords, even though we never used to care. Once ships are built in parts, I'm sure that the mast(s) will be just one part of the particular ship.
