Well it mostly depends, if there's a lack of food likely those who mine would hardly know because of spawning and only saying there name and nothing after that or those who spawn and do nothing. (creepy in a way lol) Those wouldn't get food then but if there are those who actually did something for the town and would know better. Then there would be no way they wouldn't be fed. Actually reminds me of a certain group in which someone suggested to just let a person starve to dead. This person was highly respected and did so very much for that group. Well it wasn't welcomed. And that person lost a lot of respect because of it.

I have chars that play it both ways, some will feed but most do not. I also think it has something to do with the fact that the more people you have in your town the greater your spawning rate. I assume this is why Klojt puts theirs in a hospital and has a system for feeding them. Then more spawn, confused as hell, and expected to do....heck I dont even know what they do there. Anyway I personally think feeding sleepers is stupid UNLESS they are loved. Feeding chars that have fallen asleep in the first few days of their life is just pure you trying to increase your numbers. Pffft if I would spend my rp time feeding chars I dont even know. I have seen towns that use them for training, target practice and I have even tried picking them up and transporting them to try to cause spawning somewhere else. Its all you the char type you play. I think if you mix the types of chars you play and try it many different ways you get more enjoyment from the game.

I agree with your assessment, there is one town that we are keeping a couple of people alive, and my char willingly does so. And that's the main gist really. If a town or person chooses to feed chronic sleepers, it becomes their burden (whether they willingly do it or not) to keep them fed. A harvester can accommodate that even at the new rates. Which is where the big difference is. One person keeping a whole sleeping town alive wasn't what the harvesters were designed to do, and therefore was not taken into account when revising them.

If the sleeping was expected or longer-term, the characters should have set up long-repeating tasks to ensure that even though they are asleep they have repeated projects always bringing in food for the town to help out. At least then, they would be helping out with food collecting in their absence.

Appropos this digression from the topic, this is why I fully support the idea of allowing someone to X individual chars. As a player, it rankles that a person spawns a character and does nothing with them for whatever reason (they don't like the characteristics of the char, where they spawned, were drunk when they hit the :-) button a dozen times, whatever). But if you are not even going to RP that you want the char to die (living will, word to loved one, etc. (and that may or may not be paid attention to by my or others' chars)), or make moves in that direction (running yourself through with a sharp stick for thirty days) then you should have at least the option to give yourself a heart attack, without having to kill off all your other characters. Personally, I think all the above reasons are stupid reasons for killing a character. IG reasons for suicidal thoughts are much better. I believe in muddling through, but I respect the rights of others to do so, and they should be allowed to do so.

a sleeper that does not want to be fed can just gather sand and be too full to hold food and die. or go stand on a road and begin ur sleep there.

A sleeper that can be assed is a wonderful thing, Lots haven't died because their heart attack hasn't arrived yet or for a small percentage they are observing the town and seeing if they want to be involved.

I am shocked by the rate of change, and the lack of (or perhaps I just didn't notice it) a month or three month long awareness campaign to inform the players.
I welcome it, I admire the restraint in those who are effected by it, while they accept it's necessity.

Harvesters were overpowered, now they need fuel to drive the process that fast. The next few months will give us some valuable information as to how that effects the world.

I'm still trying to figure out how this plays out IG --
"Gee, Paw, the harvester won't move as fast as 'twas before. What happened?"

"I don't know darlin', but looky here, I never noticed that there small hole before. I wonder what would happen if we filled it up with corn squeezin's?"

"Wee-haw! Lookit 'er go! Yer shure a genius, Paw!"

(Apologies to any mountainfolk out there)

Harvesters used fuel before, just rarely did anyone bother.
