Better-looking Cantr template

Postby Chris » Sun Jan 16, 2011 9:29 pm

Is there some reason Cantr is stuck in the Stone Age with respect to Web page design? Even with minimal graphics and consideration for older browsers and mobile platforms, surely someone can come up with a template that isn't an eyesore. Cantr already uses CSS so that is on the table. By the way, I am not talking about user-side scripts. Cantr's default appearance is the first thing people see. Let's put forward something that isn't butt-ugly!

Whatever committee is in charge should put together a list of design specs and then announce a contest.

Blasphemer!!

Yes, there are a few things that could be updated with the interface. Although, the simplicity is also something that I really like. I don't have a lot of similar games to compare, but FTO was a nightmare. I'd definitely take Cantr's interface any day over a "modern" flashy, overly busy screen like that.

Definitely cannot lose the green.

Here is one example, to get people thinking. Don't worry about the details.

Some things I like above:

• header image (something nature-related)
• margins are different
• sidebar for links and OOC info

Come up with your own ideas.

Making alternative looks for Cantr is in the pipeline. However, the code mixes in HTML code with PHP in a rather nasty way, so we first have to clean all that up a bit and start using CSS instead of having design in HTML tags, and then - finally - we can start using alternative CSS files.

well, all i can say about changing the appearance of the page is...
1. it MUST retain the beautiful green color which is an important signature of the game
2. i like the links in the area they are in for easy and sensible access, so please if you change it, keep the links there, and not.. the other side of the page or the top or having to scroll down. first page center left is perfect

1. it MUST not, but it surely should be one of the options.
2. If positioning of stuff chage, it will probably be for the better. I.e. today you have to scroll down several pages to access many things. Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze in everything in one page.

ya yer right, the classic green should be the default color ;)

and as long as the main links are around where they are now lol, ya move that page around however.

And I'd hope to retain the minimalist design since I often log on on my crappy mobile phone. :D
