I really can't explain why I hate them so much. It's not even the flavor because I probably haven't had one in more than a decade. I hate the idea of cake cones.

I've never heard those called cake cones before. That's just an ice cream cone. Other variants are more descriptive such as sugar cones or waffle cones.

I was imagining some new hybrid foodie trend where you put a cupcake in an ice cream cone or something along those lines. Hmm.... Maybe I should jump on that before someone else does....

I can't tell you how many of these I had to eat last week.

Every time we were crossing the pool deck for some reason…

Her: Can we go get ice cream? Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleeeeeeeease?
Me: -looks over at the ice cream line- That's really out of our way, and the line I ong, and dinner is in less than an hour.
Her: So? I won't eat too much and it won't take that long. -points- Ohmigosh, they have vanilla! Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease—
Me: -sighs and remembers that her mom told her to compromise with her- Fine.

It was actually soft-serve frozen yogurt, and was served with nothing but cake cones. She doesn't like cones, so I ended up eating hers as well as mine.

RotD:
Cold's gotten worse. Obviously I'm not at school today. I feel like crap. Headache has moved from lightheadedness to extreme pressure in my sinuses and around my eyes. I can't lay on my back because there's so much crap in my throat that leaks through and makes me cough really hard, which really hurts. My nose won't stop running, but I can't blow it because my sinuses are swollen or something. And I had a fever of 100.4°F this morning, which has only risen to 101.2°F since then despite having taken fever-reducing medication. If it rises again and/or keeps getting worse, I'm going to make my dad take me to CentraCare or something.

To top it all off, my dad expects me to do homework.

I never understood why Americans have cones with a flat bottom. Sure you can make it stand on its base then but where would you lay it down when everything is dirty? And it doesn't even look very balanced. If you wanted it to be balanced, you might as well make it a cup with a wider base, then more ice cream would fit in. In Finland we have cones that are actual cones instead of some sort of a flat-bottomed semi-cone-thing. The way they have those stand up at the ice cream stand is having little plastic cones in which they put the wafer cone while they're scooping the ice cream. People are supposed to take the ice cream out of the plastic cone after it's finished, it's just there to help the person who scoops it and minimize the time they're touching the wafer with their bare hands. But when Josh (Wichi) was in Finland for the first time, he didn't know this and he also took the plastic cone with his ice cream. Then he called me while eating it (I was in Kotka and he was in Oulu) and I explained you're not supposed to take it, so after he had finished eating, he took the plastic cone back to the ice cream stand and sheepishly apologized. It's such a cute story...

They taste good. They probably also cost less to produce too, but they also typically sell for less than a waffle cone. Most ice creams places you can get both though.

There is also the sugar cone which is like a waffle cone, but smaller.

Only cake cones have flat bottoms. Sugar and waffle cones are pointy.

Rant: One of my coworkers is in "topper" mode (for you Dilbert fans) today. I tried to start a convo with another coworker and he jumped in to dominate. He also talks loud (which I dislike) and gets even louder to talk over anyone else who tries to speak up. So now my ears are ringing and I haven't had a chance to discuss with the first coworker what I wanted, instead got to listen to the loud guy's stories of supposed expertise.

Ugg...I feel for you. I hate loud people.

TOTD: I'm in Arkansas and we've been snowed in since yesterday. It's nice because I have friends to sit around and do nothing with this week, since none of them have to go to work.

Sorry about all the snow ya'll are having to deal with, Masterekat. We're supposed to get some tonight but only a minor 4 inches or so.

One of the storms is missing us, but the next is supposed to drop over 6 inches. I'm hoping for more since my job allows me to work from home. It'll be a good excuse.

I googled 'cake cones' and got this:

I was expecting this:

Made of cake. IDK why. That was all my brain could comprehend at the thought of the words "cake cones".
SekoETC wrote:I never understood why Americans have cones with a flat bottom.

From Wikipedia: "Some brands produce something very similar to the traditional ice-cream cone, but with a flat bottom, which enables it to stand upright without danger of falling. These types of wafer cups are called "kiddie cups", "cake cones", or "cool cups"."
I would also guess this is found to be more efficient, as there is less wasted packaging space in the box when they ship it out. Which somehow makes it cheaper.

"Cake cones" A.k.a "Kiddie cones" or "vanilla cones" in Canada also have the added benefit of not leaking out the bottom like sugar/waffle cones seem to do 8/10 times. They also break less messily and uneven when you bite them.

Oh, I guess I should say that my loud coworker redeemed himself this afternoon. He looked up some judicial website and found out that my neighbor was arrested Saturday for domestic battery plus a couple other abuse charges. Wonderful.
