1. How many characters do you currently have?
7
2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?
5
3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?
Yes
4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?
My youngest is 20 and my oldest is 24. Before I "quit" my oldest was > 130
5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?
Depends on how i feel. Typically I just make new characters when Im feeling antsy that nothing is going on. Then i get overwhelmed. That's why i say characters get neglected. I stop myself from making anymore than 7 now.

Sure you will.

1. How many characters do you currently have?
11

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?
6 or 7

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?
If you have most on busy places then yes

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?
The oldest is 70, the others are in their 30's

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?
Not immediately, because there is a good chance that the newspawn will go to the same place(at least for me :P).

1. How many characters do you currently have?
Two. I would like more but then I am at risk of running out of time for all of them...

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?
I guess two for now.

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?
The amount of RP attention I give depends on how their situation grabs me and the potential that I see.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?
Newspawns.

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?
I will probably replace.

35 :)
3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Yes. But if I have some of them that have a lot of activities around them, I have others explore or work, so it's really not a problem for me.
4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

37, 37, 37, 37, 37, 37, 37, 37, 37, 34, 33, 32, 31, 24, 21. It's safe to assume I restarted my Cantr-career 17 years ago. ;)
5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

Replace immediately. I rather not have them die though.

1. How many characters do you currently have?

14 + 1 blocked slot

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

5-7 I think

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Yes, although more because it's hard to remember all their personalities, aims and those characteristic details that makes them 'them'.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

Oldest are 31 - the bunch I've made after reactivating the account. They make majority of my chars. I have some younger ones, too, youngest being few days 'old'. Generally if my character lives beyond 25-30, they're sure to be immune to sleeping sickness at least.

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

Yes, although I know I shouldn't  I'm just addicted to rolling out
Sometimes I manage to save a slot, though, for those sweet moments when I get a cool idea for a character and want to play it out NOW.

1. 13

2. I don't know. 15 maybe? That's what I used to have, but it isn't always easy..

3. Yes, in some cases. I mean, if I had only one character, I would probably put a lot of extra focus on that character..

4. 119,119,119,119,119,118,77,62,62,53,25,115,33

5. I no longer spawn characters. Actually, I meant to stop spawning more I think before the 33 year old (Spanish), but really..no more, for around a few RL years. There is a reason, but I'd prefer not to say.

1. 13

2. 8. A few of mine are builders etc, and don't crave any interaction at all. So I can manage the others who do.

3. Yes. Although it is usually quiet for me, about which I don't complain.. Much.

4. My eldest 6 are 59 (another 59 yo, too, but dead now), next one is 53... I had just those 8 for a long while as the next one is 37. Out of the 7 I had only one English char so I wanted to make more. After I gained a little bit more confidence with the 37 year old, I had an idea and here came my 29 year old (The idea failed big time. She was supposed to be a timid, meek, submissive lil girl. Yeah right, she's arrogant and bossy instead). Bit of a boredom after that, and the rest are 27, 25, 25 and 21.

5. One of mine was killed about two weeks ago. My sweetest char, aptly named Sugar. I am not replacing her, nor any of the others. I'll rethink that if I get to have less than 10 chars at some point.

14

10-15

No, not at all. (this is merely looking at how long each player can spend online and how much free time they have per day. I can get online almost whenever I want throughout the day and have a job that leaves me very free to RP whenever I wish. I can actively RP all 14 of my charcters if needed. If someone can only do an hour per day then they maight struggel with 4 or 5)

I'm not telling

I'll replace a dead character with a new one whenever I get bored.

1. How many characters do you currently have?

9

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

Dependent on the character's activities. But assuming all are in towns amongst other characters: between 5 and 7.
Higher if hermits/sailors are included.

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Yep, discounting hermits/sailors.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

4 between 110 and 70, 5 between 60 and 40.

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

Normally 3 or 4 within a short time, then not at all for a long time.

Interesting, I've certainly learnt new things having read through the replies, and confirmed other things. I think 4 characters is about the right number for me, I noticed a few other people saying the same. Something I had thought was confirmed, that having more characters can mean losing a clear defined difference between your characters personalities. I guess they could tend to merge together into groups of homogeneous characters.

I don't even know if this 'poll' will end up in the cantr stats section or not, but being bored is...

1. How many characters do you currently have?

8 I think

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

4, depending on activity

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Not at this point, I am guilty of predesign (or whatever it was called in another thread) and the characters have particular likes and dislikes that regulates their activity. Mostly I just look for opportunities to make wisecracks.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

20's with my oldests two entering their 30's.

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

I haven't had to make that decision as of yet. But I doubt that I would unless I come up with some new comedic ideas.

1. How many characters do you currently have?

Nine.

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

Maybe 5-6, though it depends on how much time I have and how involved the characters are. Right now I wish I had fewer, because I only spend 30-45 minutes on Cantr a day, and some of mine pretty high ambitions that I now don't have the time to fulfill.

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Yes, but to even that out about half of mine are peacefully travelling/farming/working at any given time, while I focus on others. This way each one gets RP attention at some point, and I'm not overwhelmed.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

Late 20s to late 30s (nearly 40).

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

No, I don't create characters unless I have a lot of free time and a burst of inspiration for something I'd like to try (like a certain personality type or trait, or just a certain type of role).

1. How many characters do you currently have?

8.

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

It really depends on the player and how much time/energy he is willing/able to spare. I used to have 15 chars and it worked pretty well, but it got tiresome after a while. I'm quite happy with what I have now.

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Definitely, but there's of course only so much attention you can spend on a char. If you give maximum attention to each char and still have time to spare, one more char won't hurt.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

96, 92, 87, 75, 50, 45, 42, 21

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

I usually create new chars when I feel I have too little. This can happen after characters died or when my own activity increases. I try to avoid making several characters at once since I probably end up with too many after that. It also takes an extra effort to establish a new character.

1. How many characters do you currently have?
9, but one of them I don't play anymore.

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?
For me maybe 5. Best is, when always only 2 or 3 of them are in a situation where I have much to roleplay, while the other characters just work.

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?
Definitely. Unfortunately I don't have much time to play and sometimes I'm not in mood for playing. At the moment, they all are not that active I'd like them to be.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?
They are between just born (a few minutes ago^^) and 31 (the first char I've ever made).

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?
No, I don't replace. I need to have an idea first to create a new one. :D

1. How many characters do you currently have?

5

2. Roughly how many characters do you consider to be the optimum number?

5-10

3. Does having more characters mean less RP attention is given to each one?

Yes. When you have too many, you tend to play your "favorites" more IMO.

4. What is your 'character age spread' between young, middle aged, old and very old etc?

Young (all under 30). The oldest I've had was 39 I think...

5. Do you replace a character that dies with a newspawn or wait until you are left with a few characters then create several within a short time?

A little of both. I wait a short time before creating anymore as I actually get pretty attached to my charries. Then when I feel it's time, I create only one and wait again before making another.
