Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I spent some time helping my mom move today. Fuck furniture. And hobbits. I've been struck with a sudden urge to throw away everything I own and several things the boyfriend owns (namely, the gaming table and entertainment center) before he and I move.
Also, I gave a presentation yesterday right at the point in my sleep-deprived state where I started to lose language, so that was fun. I really wish I hadn't been too much of a wimp to do the presentation by myself because it just turned out badly all around. But we were in the middle and the girl that went last just read straight off her notes without looking up and the first group was really good, so I'm pretending that we were a list and my professor will be affected by the serial position effect and just give us a good grade because he thinks we're awesome.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I finally got off my lazy butt and got my learner's license today.
I still haven't so much as sat behind the wheel of a car, though.
But then again, I also got my passport in the mail today and have never even so much as even looked across a border.

I'm so bored I'm even trying this one. I have two rants:
I have to correct my pieces, add the dynamics and tempo changes, record them, and study one for tuesday. Why am I so lazy? Whyyy??? *sigh*
Why are all of Sartre's characters so intelligent, complex and sensitive? There's got to be at least a few imbecil, simple, apathetic people in France, just like in the rest of the world!!!

Congratulations rconley.
Though I wonder why you posted it in the 'Rant" forum? Is it possible to post a Freudian slip?

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I went driving for the first time today.
The first time starting the car, I held the gas pedal down too far, so the transmission went crazy. Then the car started fine, but I didn't know that the wheels had been turned, so the first time hitting the gas pedal to actually move I hopped the curb, and it took a minute of frantic instruction from my mom to get down. I was just like, "I would've figured it out, but okay..."
I'm happy to say that so far I haven't jumped the curb since then.
I've apparently nearly mastered stopping, left-hand turning, and U-turns around a cul-de-sac. Right-hand turning is pretty easy, but I didn't take to that as well as left-hand turning.
Apparently tomorrow my mom is going to have me drive through the same neighbourhood backwards. Considering how many hills are in that area and the fact that I don't have any eyes in the back of my head and I like being able to see the dashboard.....that will be interesting. That's all I can say about that.

Yeah, bad idea. I remember my driving instructor saying that you should always have your foot on the brake when the car is in reverse. That doesn't always work -- hills and what not -- but it is still a good rule of thumb, to be broken as little as possible. Driving backwards is much more dangerous than driving forward. Tell your mom about the toddlers who are backed over by their parents. Also, you absolutely should turn your head and look (preferably with your inside hand touching the passenger seat); don't rely on the mirror.

Because my mom told me to. But when I went to start it later (we back to the empty neighbourhood a little more than two hours ago) without the gas pedal, it started just fine.

Yeah, I know. I'm just saying it's going to be annoying and possibly difficult for me to have to turn around.
Something I hardly did at all today was look at the mirrors. I need to fix that before I start driving on main roads with people around....
