I hate to say it but I will "probably" end up cancelling my account, I've tried to be patient with this and finally snapped. I quit my night job at Wal-Mart and hauled ass to work pipeline out of state and really won't have time to play much anymore, though it won't stop me from trying.
Oh Melissa, my team of five tailors stitch my pants on me one thread at a time like everyone else...

It may be a great big hassle because of server access lockdown right now, but guys- if only someone in the loop would update the little blurb on the front page, even once a week or something, that alone would help retain a large proportion of the playing population.
You shouldn't just leave the deathnote up there like that forever until relaunch, it's a priority thing to update it, I wonder if anyone can step up to handle that?

Cogliostro is right, everythime I see the "Cantr not working? Check here first" post light up eventhough it might say we have a long way to go, it still gets my hopes up just because I know you guys are working on the problem.
Oh and not to forget, thanks for the great job you guys did so far

Could anyone please tell me? Will the world of cantr be completely restored or is everything from scratch again?

It will be restored to just before it was hacked.

Re: How many people will still be here at relaunch?
I have been thinking about that some and a complete reset has some positive points. While I know that will rub some of our further established players the wrong way, its hard to see a new bevy of players trying us out when they feel, whether rightly or wrongly, that they have little chance of advancement and success in the current post-apocalyptic world that cantr is likely to be. I would hate losing some of my established characters (though none is older than 28) also, yet if it were better for the growth of atmosphere I would be okay with that. With the few remaining players returning, we would be returning as the emperors over abandoned empires of dirt and deserted buildings, if you thought it was bad before...
I would miss alot of my interactions, budding romances, rivalries, etc; but then there is a pretty strong chance that they will be gone anyways. The thought of each of us sitting around like (think of snoopy) vultures waiting for the 'drop dead' tic so we can run and grab keys and steel items like some sort of morbid pinata party doesn't have alot of appeal. Imagine the fighting over who is going to stand by waiting for player X to drop dead, its like two homeless people arguing over who gets which corner to display their 'will work for food' sign. (no offense to anyone who is playing this from the public library).
With all of the security changes but little if any game-play changes, it seems like giving it the title of "Cantr III" is doable.
Again I know this would really scrape against the hard work that some people have put into their 100yr old characters and can only think that if they (since I can not make such a claim) truly feel they are the better RP'rs that many claim to be, it would just be a matter of time till the same people rose to the top of whatever respective hierarchies they choose to participate in. Heck, we could even have a single initial spawn point and draw one of those 'migrations of the early societies' type maps eventually (thinking of the magazine here, though CRB might be a problem with that idea).
Well, this is long enough, I could go on but I sense that some of you need to stop reading and start flaming.
Be well

Re: How many people will still be here at relaunch?
The only reason I'm coming back is for 4 of my characters. If they go, I wouldn't be back. While you have a logical point, I suspect that my feelings are shared by many, and you'd be essentially resetting to a mostly absent player base.
Piscator has the answer to most of the game's problems, and none of those answers involve a reset, though I suspect that many will be as unpopular. However, I guarantee that if we rely on the old-fashioned committee, everyone needs to be happy method of change implementation, we'll end up with the same botched implementations as we have in the past, or no changes at all. Piscator and I disagree on nearly everything, but, regarding his proposals for increasing consumption, I have his back. When these changes are proposed publicly, everyone would do well to support them instead of the typical complaining.

Re: How many people will still be here at relaunch?
Complaining often makes people feel better and makes us more readily to accept a change if we feel we've had a say and been listened too, acted on or not. Besides, many of us don't have a complete overview of the mechanics of the game and can't see the implications or consequences fully. Our view is narrowed by our experiences and the emphasis we put into the game. Our complaints reflect this. I would like to let you know how I feel about the changes, but as I am often swayed by your logic Doug and am happy on the expounding of the ideas so it infiltrates my narrowed sphere, please show us the way as usual.

Re: How many people will still be here at relaunch?
I was just throwing it out there as a sort of mental exercise, I didn't expect it to be popular.
Addicted captures my thoughts quite well...I want them back. Either people will grumble and accept the changes or they will move down the road. I think that most of those who were of hyphenated loyalties have already exited, what you have here is a relatively loyal core. There are some types of changes that some would never forgive, though I don't know exactly what they are; relative I guess.
I had thought that I would play some of the same characters again either way. They would obviously have different acquaintances and locations, but I am not really creative enough to come up with much else. I think a few of my bullpen would shrink though, I just ran out of personalities that were interesting to play. The Noble Paladin stereotype with no personality flaws or traits just doesn't appeal to me personally, cantr takes that option away.
Well, I wish you, piscator, echoman and anyone that I am forgetting to mention here the best of luck and wind at your backs.
Till then...we rant!
Be well
Oh...and Mojo....thats all the motivation I need!

Be realistic, Laddie. We rant until we can rant no more. We'll find something to rant about, even if our rant is about how there's nothing to rant about. That's human nature. We are naturally pessimistic, although there are the rare exceptions that force themselves to be perpetually happy no matter the circumstances, and kudos to them. Congratulations on being able to be happy all the time.
Despite our ranting, though (especially mine--I love to rant), we all appreciate the effort that's being put in to fix the game. Without EchoMan and Piscator and Jos and Doug and everyone else who I might be forgetting to name here, Cantr would probably have never gotten to be such an enjoyable game, and we wouldn't be sitting here having this discussion.
Back OnT:
I have every intention of still being here when Cantr is relaunched. Even if it is in the wee hours of the night as the only times I can still play (although then it depends on my level of sleep deprivation).
However, I think I'd be okay IRL if I had to quit before the game came back up; the withdrawal symptoms are pretty much gone now, other than making char images and posting on the forums excessively. Consciously I don't want that to happen, but subconsciously I know I'd be okay, alive, sane, whatever you want to call it.

It's 22:22.... my brain only works from 9am to 9pm (which is longer than some people I know!) on an average day.

Re: How many people will still be here at relaunch?
I'm starting to have doubts on my return to the game. Just before the hack, I lost a beloved charrie in the massacre and things weren't the same after.
However, I have put millions of hours into the French translation, and about that many into the Italian translation that may never see the light of day. That makes me want to play, if only to get pleasure out of my work.
I have also made several friends whom I hold dear. That makes me want to play.
Decisions, decisions...
