Would you risk your own life for 1000 $ if there was a 33 % chance that you died? I think very few would take that risk...so taking things and running just because you know that the benifit of having a character survive with some stolen goods weighs up the negative parts (for now practically none) is in my view bad RPing if practiced regualrly.
To many, violant! suicidal! martyrs!

...one obvious problem is that people is trying to play this game to "win", meaning that they want to get powerful characters...and therefore many uses OOC logic to gain wealth for their characters. (Like risking their lives if the price they can win outweighs the hazzle of starting a new char...)

No, I would not. Yet I am not one of my characters. I live in a highly advanced society that takes care of me when I am in need, where I am allowed to exploit my personal talents, or pursue any goal that I may set for myself, and I am living in a wealth that couldn't possibly be imagined by previous generations.
Cantr is quite a different world - peoples' lives have little value, death looms around every corner, you can get thrown into jail for speaking your mind, and the highest you can thrive for as a newspawn is to own a bike one day. If you would want to compare this to real life, compare it to a place like Congo or Iraq - places where people are perfectly willing to take the horrible chances like you suggested.

I see your point, but I don't quite agree.
In Cantr very few people need to starve, it is easy to become a functioning and respected part in society, there are no diseases and disabilities that people suffer from...so I see Cantr life as pretty easy compared to IRL.
In difference to people in Iraq or Congo most Cantrians should have a very small idea of what they are missing out on. Sure...you can be envious about your neighbour owning a fancy bike or a silk robe, but compared to real life everyone is pretty much on the same level. There should be no need for the desperation of third world citizens in Cantr...at least not in most societies.
People's lives have little value for one reason...people don't RP good enough. And that is the whole point for why we need a "penalty" for losing your characters.

That kind of feels like OOC logic.
If bikes were the pinnacle of human technology and evolution we would probably really, really look forward to owning a bike...instead a huge part of mankind is striving to own a large pile of colored paper instead.

Of course not...but money is really just regular bartering made more effective. A bike is amongst the most valuable things in Cantr...so having a bike as a goal in life is not less ambitious then trying to become a millionaire or whatever.
