Chars with multiple personalities. It's bugged me for a long time, but there seems to be a growing number of them lately.

How multiple? Could you give me an example? I think people are complex and unpredictable. Not everyone, but the interesting ones at least. Why shouldn't characters be complex too?
I dislike the opposite of that. When characters are too plane.

When one character goes by more than one name and each name has different (usually opposite) personalities or attitudes. When the other chars around them have to say: "Who are we talking to today? Zorg or Jenny?" It's like the player uses the "other personality" to get away with violence, theft or creating some other sort of drama, then the char switches back to their meek/pleasant personality and acts confused why everyone hates them....etc etc.

I have no problem with chars having mood swings - that's normal and does make a char seem more "real".

Note to self: Don't make a char with multi-personality disorder.
Also: Don't give an existing char multi-personality disorder.
But schizophrenia is perfectly acceptable. The voices told me so. :D

Hmmmm...... *tries to think of something relevant to the thread*

People who write really, really, really well as far as content....but neglect to use capitalisation! Argh! It's so distracting! It makes it a nightmare to read simply because of that! *claws at eyeballs* How long does it take to actually press the "shift" key?

So people are irritated about it. Doesn't mean you can't make one like that. Irritating people can be fun too!

I wouldn't be able to roleplay them consistently, though. At least my annoying characters are consistent.

Ah okay but you should never play how others want you to if it's not how you want to play. (thats different for players with many evil chars those players have to change :D )

 Oh... Okay, that's pretty multiple. Specially if it's to get away with things their incapable of rp-ing.

If you read through this entire thread and then assumed you shouldn't/can't play a char like any of the ones listed here, you'd never be able to play at all.

Just because -I- think a char is irritating doesn't mean all of my chars would feel the same way and vice versa. There have been chars whose RP I truly enjoyed watching, but they annoyed my char so they got chased off. And...there are some chars who annoy the crap out of me, but my char likes them.

Crazy characters bother me as well. There is a way to portray crazy with-out being obnoxious but it's rare to see it in Cantr I think. Then my tastes aren't the same as Joe Schmo's tastes for what qualifies as good rp either.
I feel that when people try to RP a character in Cantr that has a specific trait they tend to focus entirely too much on that trait because they think it won't be picked up by other players/characters and it instead becomes really annoying.

A large portion of things that people do to get them called crazy are triggered by a single life changing event/several life changing events, so it sort of bothers me to see someone spawned already possessing the traits. But it also bothers me to see someone who does use an event in-game to go crazy and then that craziness becomes their focal point in life like they completely forget what kind of character they used to be. (While I understand this thing can happen, it seems to happen with all those who are trying to portray crazy.)

You don't have to switch your personalities on a daily basis for someone to pick up that you have multiple personalities. You don't have to have dramatic episodes of forgetting who you are. Sometimes a gradual build and waiting for the right opportunity to go from one extreme to the next in your chars personality is what it takes and I think most people would commend that more than they would a person who runs around the town looking kind of more like a schizophrenic on shrooms.

Just my 2 cents.
I hate people.

I have one char whose child like a bit, though he also has a serious part about him. I doubt people who are just in that town for a few days really notice he's childlike because I d;ont rp him of acting like that all the time. Just sometimes when it's needed.

+1

Subtlety goes a long way. Though I think you're right on that point, players are afraid a "quirk" won't be picked up by others if it's not emphasized.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!! That's so annoying!

Now that I have time to think *sighs sadly* I don't like it when characters with a type of personality (not necessarily plane) change drastically due to external events, just to fit in the plot or something.

Agreed. But anyway I play my chars how they are and not going to change them because people get irritated lol, though that hardly happens. Well that I know off.

First of all, real men doesn't hit with pillows. They use claymores with 0% strength.

Second of all, if there's a fight. real men say "I'll be there." And they'll be there.

Me neither. You would think that because I play him I would know. He always went to fight when needed he never backed down. And nothing is wrong with hitting with a pillow. I never saw anyone train with a weapon at 0%.

I think you're just making things up!
