Re: What is FTO?
That's almost exactly what I experienced, Abe. I lost interest a little after a few days of babbling (and even having my emotes garbled occasionally) and began to check only every other day or so and suddenly my character was dead. The game seemed to be considerably more fast paced than Cantr.
I had a pretty positive impression all in all, but I didn't feel like going through the registration procedure a second time.

Pretty in pink.

When you're newborn and helpless, and have parents that doesn't give a shit about their newborn, in combination with an extremely unintuitive GUI, I lasted less than a week.

If you go on the forum, in general discussion there is a topic where you can adopt the chars. You can end up grabbing one that is out of the baby stage. I just traded one of mine for another one. So that is an another idea for you.
And I interact with my chars children more then I do their mates cause they sleep more then the babies XD

Re: What is FTO?
this is the problem I ran into. my first character was pretty active, then got less and less so because all his "siblings" started dying off from eversleep. Plus his father slept to death, and is now left with some other pre-teens and his grandparents. Still, he's sticking around for now.
If a character dies, are you essentially back to waiting for another birth queue, or are pre-existing chars born with a higher priority? Sorry for silly questions, I can't hit the forums at work (but can get in-game) and while I used to only login once, I'm trying to be more active now and learn the game a bit more.
Interface DOES take some getting used to!

Re: What is FTO?
There's no preference for people who have played before. It took me about a month to be born again after first one died, although I inherited Miri's account about a week before that so I wouldn't have needed the second character after all. But I've been okay with playing two accounts, Sonya's is very busy while the other one would be okay with only one login a day.

Re: What is FTO?
I'd assume people's emotes were garbled because they did something like "*baby cries* Bah wah gah." The screen works by filtering anything that has text outside of asterisks, so if you want to make an emote you have to put everything in asterisks.

Re: What is FTO?
wow, neat! different species can inter-mingle!
I was almsot assuming in my head that each "colony" settlement was far distant from others, like different islands in Cantr, and no boats.
Neat!
oops, is there a 4-day rule for FTO?! or a CRB such sharing would break? Oops!
Slowly getting "into character" and am liking this game more and more, but it's an even larger leraning curve than Cantr I think. much different...

Re: What is FTO?
I'm finding it very amusing that this one kid is tossing his rattle, although a lot of kids throw their toys around irl but it never crossed my mind. Then again, my character wasn't given toys when she was little, she only got dolls when she was older. My other character was given a rattle and she was afraid of it since it made a sound and she thought it was alive, but later she learned to use it as a hunting tool. She also has a doll she found in some place.

There's actually a pretty strict ban on sharing almost any in-game information, outside of the "Faery Tale" feature, but I think that's general enough that you're just fine

I think the proximity might've been on purpose, both to provoke more-interesting RP sooner and because Cantr's experience has indicated that big continents aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Looks like somebody forgot to pay their hosting bill since FTO gets a suspended page. Nice timing.

*giggles madly at the owner of FTO* Jerk, he is probably in a corner on a crack high...or wait making dinner for his kids that took three days when he pissed off nearly every player he had by killing of any char that was over 50.

Re: What is FTO?
Thought I wold pass this on to those of you waiting, It was posted on the FB group page...
FTO is temporarily down until we can find a decent dedicated server to switch to. Our current host shut the site down this morning without warning us. Something about fto using too much of their resources, I don't know exactly. The game is paused for now, and has been backed up; don't worry about your characters or the game world. I'm not sure how long the switch will take, hopefully soon. So please check back often and spread the word if you can. Thanks!
