Getting used to Cantr...
So, I was psyched when I found this game, mostly because of all the possibilities in gameplay. However, my excitement has worn off just a tad, as I've discovered that I have to spend near 2000 minutes (close to 60 hours?!) in-game just to do any simple movement or anything.
I may have missed something, and I don't have to spend that time in-game, but my time counter was the same as when I logged out when I logged in several hours later.
So, anyways, how did you vets get used to it? I just don't know what I'm supposed to do while I wait...
Also, is it really that much time in-game? Or can it be spent out of game?

That's just from before when you could only play 200 minutes a day, that doesn't mean how long it'll take to do something. The counter resets to 2000 when a day passes, it's meaningless now.

Things basically move in 3 hour real-time increments.
Like Ryaga said, the gameplay used to be restricted to 200 minutes per day to prevent overloading the server. That issue has since been solved and the game was set to 2000 minutes arbitrarily.

The minutes still count down when you're logged in, though, so it's a good way to figure out exactly how much time you just wasted on the game.

Right, thanks guys. =D
Still seems like an insanely long amount of time to do anything, heh.

It's slow-paced....which is good and bad.
But if enough people become active in a town, you can miss a lot before you know it.

Newbie question: how do I get food? In an attempt to figure out what I was doing, I may have irritated some people by taking stuff out of their crates, and subsequently putting it back in when it told me I couldn't eat it. xD

You only eat "manually" to get your health back (if you're wounded you eat special kinds of food - like spinach or mushrooms). When you're hungry eating is automatic - you only have to have food in your inventory and your character will eventually start eating it. On how to obtain food - either start farming or ask for it but that's the matter of roleplay (you can also roleplay a thief, murderer, madman, etc.).

This may sound strange, but you should also check if your food is in fact edible. As pointed out, some types of food are used to restore your health and, that's what you should be aware of, only for this purpose. That means you could starve with a backpack full of apples. Be sure to have something from this list:

Below your Character list page, right at the bottom, is a list of orange options. The Frequently Asked Questions section is really useful. Also the wiki main page has a link to 'introduction' worth reading.

The feeling of wonder is displaced when it hits the pale of pace. It's like a Paradox game, in some aspects. You need to wait a long time, if you think in the short-term you usually get smashed (or not
).

I admit, its a welcome change for a new player to ask these oft-repeated questions here, than in-game.

Hey, maybe this topic could become a permanent place for new players to ask those kinds of questions... a resource that is driven by their questions and experiences.
