Or... maybe every player is given the opportunity to resurrect a single dead character, and continue playing them indefinitely, until killed again?

I know who I'd bring back -- Kosha Winters, Zombie Queen of Vel'Nora! ;-)

As fun as that sounds, can you imagine the chaos it would cause in game?!

There are plenty of ways to RP certain dead chars returning. Write it off as someone faking their death (I know of one char (not mine) who could definitely pull off that scenario), or it could create some religious movements if someone came back from the dead. I don't like the idea of them being a "zombie" but I would love to have a 2nd chance with a couple of my chars. Carefully orchestrated with very select situations could work and be very cool.

I know it will never happen, though...just musing.

Well, I wasn't 100% serious, but an alternative reality day might seem like fun to some people (not quite sure if I'd be one of them). The next day all events would be erased of course, but until then we'd had a nice little zombie apocalypse.

I am not in my forties! :(

I wasn't referring to you. I was referring to my dad in the other room who is, in fact, in his forties.
I would've named you specifically if I were speaking of you, Doug.

Ok... I don't get it. Are we supposed to pretend nothing happened in game?
I'm new at this... hum... game? and I didn't know this had happened before, so when I first saw the "zombies" they scared the living hell out of me. I was about to ask my character's friends where they came from.
I'm guessing since they appeared unnaturally and for a brief period of time I should pretend nothing happened, but I wanted to make sure everyone else will.

@Seko: Yes, my dad plays Cantr. That's how I came to the game in the first place. I believe I mentioned that in the "What do Cantrians do in real life?" thread.

OnT: Since all of my chars are still alive (my oldest three are twenty-three), it was not an issue for me. But I would assume that it is to be as if nothing happened.

Only one of my characters saw dead people but it certainly startled her. Maybe only sensitive people saw them and some might shrug it off, thinking there was a natural explanation. But if it contributes something to the character then no one's forcing you to ignore what happened. I remember way back when I was pretty new there was some glitch that suddenly made everybody on all the roads visible to each other. The one character of mine who saw it shrugged it off as a hallucination caused by dehydration (it happened on a desert road) but it did make an interesting journal entry.

None of my chars "woke up" before the game was locked, so as far as I'm concerned it never happened. If any of them had seen the dead chars or if someone else around them mentioned the phenomenon I'd probably play it off RPly as seeing ghosts or something along those lines.
