Re: The suicidal character
What if your characters get killed? I could see people like returner being hated as a player. Other people CRBing and find his charries and killing them. Next thing you know his max. 30 character slots are gone and he is "banned" for a year.
I am a player that doesn't kill off my characters I'd rather have fifteen 80 year olds than newspawns. The only way they will die is by violence, at least the ones that are this old now. But I do understand where the others that want suicide are coming from. I hate old and sleepy key holders as much as anyone. I think people should have the choice. Suicide or hibernation, everyone is different, why not give more choices. I'd rather have respectful hibernators than the ones that don't let anybody know what's going on and just sleep. I usually let them starve.

Re: The suicidal character
Appealing to the GAB to get open slots was stated as an option. The one year was if you didn't do that.

Re: The suicidal character
I rather thought that it will be 1 year from death of each character to open slot. And no more than 20 chars at once. Anyway, it's not the best sollution (yes, I am able to change my mind
).
As I stated yesterday in polish forum: I have 10 chars and only one is really annoyed at sleeping key-holder. Some of them chose to live alone, another play imoprtant role in their societies and few are just simple workers. I am pretty sure that I would be able to play even 15 or more chars, but I simply know, that I don't have enough time to do that.
IMHO, the problem is in players and in removing 20 minutes limits. When you can spend X hours a day playing your char you get depleted of ideas you previously had... Then you get bored and want to leave that char to get new one. I am patient and don't give up on my chars easily but it's annoying to see people simply change chars when they only want...

No, I'm sure my husband would be happy if you reinstate it, but I might have to do something drastic.
Reveal to me the mysteries
Can you tell me what it means?

Unlock these secrets in me
Describe the vision, the meaning is missing
Won't anybody listen?

I'm not sad. I only consider it a source of many recent 'players leaving' problems.

Re: The suicidal character
I think I would die (or at least fall into a very deep coma that may as well be considered dead) if I could only play Cantr for twenty minutes a day. I was upset on my first day playing Cantr when I could only play some two-hundred (I used those up quickly), and I was more than overjoyed the next day when I had two-thousand.
Although I suppose my parents would be quite happy if the twenty-minute limit were reinstated so that I can concentrate on the things I'm really supposed to be doing.

If there was a limit, it would just lead into people logging out to write stuff and read stuff like in the old days. It would cause more server load.

Re: The suicidal character
I have three that will die soon. One is a newspawn that I had no connection with. I am not sure if that makes any sense to anyone but with me, my chars sort of talk to me, they just spring into my mind and tell me who they are. This one, nothing, no voice. As we all know it will take her 20 days to starve so unless she speaks before she runs out of time, oh well, no great loss.
The second one is really upsetting me at the moment. I cannot bear to see the name and I want that char dead asap. If the suicide button was there I would hit it without a second thought. Things may yet change but till -I- cool down I cannot see any future for that character. In the meantime that char is moving around, probably in the hope that it will find something to keep it going.
The third one, she has no purpose left to serve, she has done all she could, she has travelled a bit and knows that she cannot live anywhere else but in that dead city that she is in. She wants to go so she will go. She has the main key to the town and she will have to travel to the next town to hand it over before she dies.
On the other hand, I have a char whom I hated for a while, really really hated. I couldn't deal with her and she was killing herself (Sometimes I have no say in it, believe it or not, they become their own boss, especially if they are dominant characters. There was a huge conflict between what I wanted her to do and what she wanted to do (Okay let's put it this way, what I thought she would want to do, if you like)). If she could commit suicide she would. But then, as things progressed, she got better and is now a very happy woman. I enjoy seeing how her life has turned around, although in those days she made me cry with frustration.
Both sides of the coin for me, oh and most of my chars will try to talk people out of it if they know they are starving themselves etc so if that makes me a hypocrite, I don't really mind if it will help a fellow suicider
Oh and I will not be making any more chars in their places, except maybe one (Who's busy telling me all about herself, trying to convince me that I should let her be born) as I get far too tired trying to keep up and I have enough on my plate as it is, so for me it is not about freeing the slots.

Re: The suicidal character
I can relate to that too. The characters that doesn't really interest me become workers or travellers though, in hope of something interesting to happen, or of finding some place where they can find new interaction with other characters.
I have 15 characters of which maybe 6-7 are role played quite well (to my ability), and the rest are simmers, workers or travellers/explorers.
I will never (again) starve or kill off (if it gets implemented) a character. I did starve one of my first, because of spawning in the wrong language group, and one was killed by support for the same reason, when I found out that was an option with bugged spawnings. In seven months of playing two of my chars has been murdered and one killed by animals. That gives me enough "fresh" characters to play.

Re: The suicidal character
I did starve off a cluster of characters once. I spawned 8 in a row, and then starved off the ones that no one spoke to.

And that's the most important thing I've read in the whole topic. If you can't find your character interesting it means that something has to be changed. Sometimes you need to travel to find new circumstances to live. Sometimes you begin to simply work and wait for changes. It almost always gives positive results, I think.

Re: The suicidal character
Pressing the cross without severing all the bounds with Cantr and it's community is like a failed suicide attempt. Whatever your intentions were, you get to see other things it caused, things that you never intended. Hurting people/character you never intended to hurt. And then, knowing this all, you're so much less likely to attempt it again, successfully or not.

i totally agree on that.
i have one character of this kind, a sad poor thing since she woke up 8 cantr-years ago, and i`m not satisfied at all about this char, though i think she represents a part of myself. it wouldn`t be too sad if she`d die, but i won`t let her starve on purpose, instead i try to help her change her boring life. if it`ll turn out i can`t, well, i have enough fun with my other chars.
