Tearing up notes

Postby YugoStrikesBack » Sun Jun 27, 2010 7:20 am

Since editable notes can be erased, why can't we be allowed to destroy editable notes as well? When you delete a note, you aren't editing it, you're erasing it, so the non-editable function shouldn't apply.
I did it cuz I hate you.

You mean destroy uneditable notes? There would be chaos in Cantr if that happened. New spawn criminals tearing up notes that are important to a town and also destroying history notes.

Then don't allow them access to such important docs.

It would be sort of logical if notes weren't permanent, but it would be good to get things like stone tablets that would take time to make and also to destroy, and would be capable of holding more text than signs on buildings. It doesn't make much sense that a single person could "tear up" a whole library at the speed of clicking, but then again, people can also create loads of notes (even uneditable ones) very fast, especially using the copy button. Maybe if all note-related actions gave a small bit of tiredness, it would make it easier to stop vandals because destroying dozens of notes would make them notably tired and easy to drag. The important documents in most towns such as laws and citizens' lists tend to be editable anyway, because laws are added and updated, and people spawn and die. They only seem safe because most people know it's jackassery to steal notes, and also pointless when any smart town managers keep copies in their inventory.

Well wasn't said that notes are the backbone of Cantr? Doing this will certainly mess with that. Don't get me wrong I also want to destroy certain notes like ones with just hello on it or like that. But there is already so few history in Cantr with notes it would totally ruin everything if those could be destroyed.

Making permanent history shouldn't be free. Currently even memorable notes drown in the flood of useless information. If people had to use resources and contribute hours of work for making text permanent (or at least slower to destroy), important notes would be more likely to stand out because they existed as solid objects. Also it would be handy if you could see if a note was editable or not without clicking the edit button so that you wouldn't waste your time trying to erase something that can't be erased.

I have a char who is already so busy with his group that I play him more than my other 14 chars together. He collects notes as in saving history. He has a lot of notes but as he is so busy already letting him needing to make them last longer will just be too much work. Not sure how many notes he has. But it might be 1000? And also on the island he is it is pretty empty these days. Someone there just have to go around the notes and destroy the notes and he will never be able to see them and getting the history of the island better.

Oh and if its possible you can get rid of a good amount of notes by just deleting the envelopes he is if Duplicate notes and worthless notes.

How about burning notes? A burning project can be created with some good amount of fuel, a fire pit and the note. It could take a few hours for the note to burn and if possible the project can be canceled.

While on the subject of notes, can we have books soon? (I know there is a separate topic for it). I think it is just a much better way to organize notes than envelopes.

i think it's a good idea, but we should implement the locked noticeboard first.

Libraries would need restrict acess also.

edit: and we should have a "delay" to implement this after everything is ok, to people do the necessary itens to secure their notes.
