Posting a pic over 100 kbs?
So yeah, I want to include a new map, but it's over 100 kbs. I can't shrink it because then the words because illegible. Is there any way to upload it?

Far too complicated to do that. Not being sarcastic here either.

One of the Black Atlas maps is externally hosted due to this issue.

I think most maps are in pieces due to the size limit. It's irritating to see "this account has been inactive for over 30 days" or "this image has been moved or deleted" instead of something your character should be seeing.

I guess splitting is your best option. It has been discussed to not allow any external images at all.

Splitting is your only option, really.
I honestly think 100kb is way too small, and if we could actively purge unused images from the repository, we could up the limit to something much more reasonable. Is space really such an issue?

Currently there are 531MB of uploaded images totally, in thousands of files.
The last week, an average of 5,125 files were uploaded per day, the lowest number was 0 the largest 13.

Hmmm.. that means that 35.875 files were uploaded in that week? Who uploaded seven eighths of a file?

I'm not sure you have grasped the concept of average fully.

So, Echo, tell me if I'm wrong here, but:
I have an 800kb map. To upload it, I need to split it into 8 files. I do this. It takes me a considerable amount of time. There are now 8 100kb files on the server as opposed to 1 800kb file. What's the difference?

One difference is that people who would like to abuse this feature to post large images used elsewhere on the web won't go through with it if it is some work involved to upload it. I'm not saying it won't happen that we increase the max image size, but for now the option is to split the images.
And I'm not Echo.

On the contrary.. you wrote that "The last week, an average of 5,125 files were uploaded per day, the lowest number was 0 the largest 13."
A week is 7 days.. in order to have an average (mean) of 5 1/8 files per day, that means the total number of files for the week was 35 and 7/8. I think it is YOU who doesn't grasp the concept of "average"

This isn't a discussion post.
Is there a way to purge the old pictures that might be taking up space?

How about an upload limit per account instead? Something in the range of 1 or 2 MB per week.
Pretty in pink.
