It took me about two months. I forget what number I started at, might have been in the 180's. There are probably a lot more people in the queue right now from when Cantr was down.

Yay! I spawned!
Now to get used to the interface and all that sort. The help files are slightly more confusing as there's a lot displayed on hte screen. Appears FTO is more MUD-like in terms of locations and inventory, and I do rather get a chuckle how it translates my talking into "Googoo dada whaaaa" sounds. Help says emote with asterisks like *looks around and cries* but I've seen my 'parents' mix both emotes and speech together in one "chat line" but it seems if I try to do something like

"*Looks around, and babbles* Who you, dada?" it translates the entire line into baby-babble.

Still, verrrry interesting. I hadn't realized there were different species, and was surprised to see what my parents and I look like. Not what I expected. :)

Until you're one, the only thing that won't translate into baby talk is just plain emotes in asterisks. You can't put any words before or after the emote. Because you are a baby. :D

Being a baby is starting to get old, but I'm trying hard to have fun with it. Although after observing all the attention given to the ones who sleep several days I'm starting to wonder if they've got the right idea. Let your parents think you're one of the sleepers then they'll be that much happier when you show signs of life, and you spend less time emoting crying for the 50th time.

I though it was fun for about as long as I though it was fun to figure out the interface. About half an hour or so. Need I say my account haven't been touched since? :)

That was my first experience with FTO. I've promised this time to at least get through the baby torture and see how I like the game then.

I do like the idea of raising babies vs spawning as a 20 year old. At least there's more of a connection and possibly forced bonding with family. Only a handful of my chars in all the time I've played Cantr have really felt like part of a community right away and even fewer experience "family" (Excluding significant others, but even then the family aspect usually stops there. Only one of mine in a relationship has adopted a younger Cantrian). My experience with FTO is obviously very limited, but it seems like there is less of the spawn-and-go types who leave their community as soon as they're able. I could very well be wrong on that, though.

I assume most of the spawn-and-go types get bored of not being able to do anything as a baby and die before they reach traveling age. The ones that survive have most likely formed some sort of a bond with their family, unless it's horrible or very sleepy. Some people are explorers and some prefer to stay at home, make more babies and take care of the kids, but I would assume that even the explorers think about their families and either return to them occasionally or at least think about how they're doing.

It seems like everybody else gets these amazingly active children. But I get the ones that wake up like once a week, or once ever and die. Or are like obvious trolls.

I have had lots and lots and lots of children -- I think about 50 or 60, and less than a dozen lived to adulthood, many many many trolls.

Anyway, I LOVED playing a baby. But man, the forums are getting to be awful. I'm SO GLAD we aren't run the way FTO is run. People complain about Cantr but I think FTO is a lot worse in that regard.

I'm sad that my first character''s parents was affected by the "mysterious disease" epidemic. That pair was the best parents of the three I have. Her twin got killed by monsters just before that - It's forced her to grow up faster than she otherwise would have, so she's a very mature 9 years.

My 2nd character's mother died a couple weeks ago (sleeping sickness) and her father just went off on a long trip. So now I'm running about fending for myself and killing monsters at 8 years. Everyone else around is sleeping - though the latest youngster is awake now and again wanting food - so I feed her.

My 3rd - currently 4 years - kinda a bizarre family. She's just keeping to herself and making berries. Quietness is a valued trait among women here so she's got that going for her.

My oldest character turned 17 and is on a long trip with her twin brother and 2 older siblings. They are all getting along great and have no idea that their parents are probably dead from the mystery illness.

My second char is now 13 and has had to grow up in a hurry. Her grandmother died from the illness, her mother killed herself. Right after that she lost her oldest brother, her younger sister, another younger brother, and her twin killed himself. She also found in a container 4 more of her siblings that had died. There are only 3 of them left. Her older brother who has been nothing but a complete ass to my char their whole life, and her younger brother who is... maybe 10 or so.

My 3rd is 8. I adopted her when she was 6. Her family also died from this mystery disease and well.. there has been nothing but drama. She has an older sister who is brand new in the teenage years, a brother who is a year older, another older sister and two younger brothers. Talk about a handful XD

Long Live Lord Lumin!

Wow what an arrogant bastard. Talking about how he is doing people a favor by letting them play that game. If I ever was tempted to play he certainly ruined it now. :D

I downloaded the life log and it contains events from people I've never even met. I'm 65th in the birth queue now, I think.
