I learned this the hard way. My first time around, emotionally, me and my characters were pretty blended. I used you because that's what made sense to my emotional state. I WAS my character in that instant, and the other character was as real as the chair I was sitting on. When the unhealthiness of this caught up with me and I chose to unsub, after the subsequent break-down, when I was able to objectively assess things, I realized how terribly creepy it was using "you."
"You", I believe, bypasses the character and strikes at the heart of the player. If the player responds to this, as I did, because of a breakdown of self-identity while playing, then that's unhealthy. If they have a proper emotional separation and perspective, then "you" could seem inappropriate or creepy. I try to write in Cantr like I'm writing a book (minus character thoughts). Before, I was living 9 separate lives. Now I'm living one life and writing 11 stories. It's a very big difference, and something as little as him/her - you contributes in a large way the difference, at least for me.
