There are a few players who do that.

Re: Characters that irritate yours -
I have noticed that several of us have some identifiable writing characteristics and identified what I believe are some character/player relationships that my players interact with. I am sure I have plenty of identifiers myself.
Then I remembered in a different thread (like to know characters-players????) where some people said they really didn't want to know "the man behind the curtain".
I think I understand that position now.

I had quite a few identifiers back in the beginning of my cant playing days. A love of the *he/she smiles* emote was a big one, though I like to think I've toned it down (except for a few characters which it has become part of their personalities). If you think about it its almost like a roleplaying fingerprint.

Hm.... I say 'a bit' quite a bit. *He nods* And I guess I capitalize the first letter of emotes... and I use american spellings.
Yeah, its a fingerprinty.

I don't know...I over-use *she smiles*......I've even had a few other characters to mention it to mine...:S

I think everyone uses the "he/she smiles" emote a lot so I don't believe it is that much of an identifier. I feel one of THE biggest identifiers is certain people playing each of their characters with the same traits. I can name three groups of players/characters that I have identified because of this.
Well, actually make that four when Rigel pops his dumbass head back into the game every once in a while.
What I would like to know though is do people really find this irritating? I personally don't (with the exception of Rigel of course) because the ones I have encountered have brought something new to each of my characters. They each view the 'clones' as something new based on their individual personalities.

All of my chars with exception to one started off pretty much the same until something happened to make them unique. I can spot several players almost as soon as I meet one of their chars. I doesn't bother at all.

I actually think it's kind of fun to try and find identifiers.

Re: Characters that irritate yours -
I don't need specific identifiers to pick out characters. I can just tell if two characters are played by the same person by the sum total of their minuscule particulars, each of which, alone, would never be noticeable. However, this only works if I already know who plays a particular character, and then I meet another that they play. If I don't know who plays a character, then I can't make a match. For some reason, knowing who the player is is critical for this passive ability (and it has nothing to do with the forum - this works even if they're not forum denizens).
My tells involve chosen syntax for word emphasis, and also some misspellings (but I've been working on those). No doubt I have other tells that I'm unaware of.

That's a tough one. I have/had multiple characters with clones. Other than instantly telling me who plays them (which is always irritating), I don't know. I guess it does take away a bit, since as a player I can tell how one character would react to a new situation based on how another of their characters reacted in the past to a similar situation. It breeds a bit of false familiarity with the clones.
What I find pleasantly surprising is when a player that typically plays clones produces a truly unique character and stumps me. I've encountered two of these kind of characters so far, and I never in a million years would have picked it out. Unfortunately, one's dead now.

That is a great point that I did not consider, probably because I haven't really seen a situation that made them act the same in such a degree that it would have stricken me as repetitive.
Oh! One that has just come to me, the way the characters are named. Some of them (to me at least) have had that stand out "I know who you are" characteristic.

Or the way they describe their chars. Someone figured out two of my chars due to that
