yes, lack of capitaliSation looks good sometimes.

also if you're going to try and appear like you're a linguist, try to use proper spelling (ie spelling that is used in the entire world - except one country)

haha. they borrowed it, babbled it and butchered it till it was no more. :(

American English is commonly referred to as 'Lazy English' by academic linguists; purely because they take the lazy short-cut in words. Ie, colour to color.. Aluminium to Aluminum.. like, seriously? Then there's the introduction of 'z's, because hey that's what it sounds like!

If I had to classify it, I'd call it 'Phoenetically-Based Lazy AmericaniSed English'. I think that'd be accurate.

I've heard that British English has extra letters because the Dutch typesetters were paid by the letter so they intentionally came up with complicated spellings to get more money. Think of something like "borough", if your language was logical like Finnish then you could write it in four letters.

That would make sense  I don't know of any other language having so many double-leTTers-in-a-word words. That doeSn't explain AmericanS chainSawing it, though

Americans park in driveways, and drive on parkways. That says it all really. :D

Haha sweet, consecutive american-'language' bashing posts. Usually you get one American replying and everyone is too scared to contribute their different opinion.

A WIN FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD! Mwahahahaha

Also this is wholly untrue. We were taught that this was a theory but proven completely false.. Some study looked at the history of words and found that wasn't the cause. Either way, if language was supposed to be completely 'logical' and 'efficient' then you may as well adopt something like Chinese Simplified and ruin the beauty of written and spoken English (and particularly French).

American language is elitist. The "have's" have mastered in and the have nots sit in the lower echelon's of society unable to effectively communicate. But I'm not scared to bash it, I just never have a need to cuz noone gets wtf i'm talking about to begin with.

Anyways, you can all go to hell.
I did it cuz I hate you.

Well, as far as I'm concerned American English is the the real English and British English is just some weird dialect. It's not about who invented it, but about who perfected it. ;) British English is just English 0.5.

Even though I doubt you're American, you just blurted out a typical American response lol.

Anyway, speaking seriously, American English is American English. British English is English. If I, in Australia, create a NEW version of American English, does that push American English down to 0.5 lol? No, it doesn't. I don't know whether you're saying this tongue-in-cheek, (I think you are), but if you're not, it's completely off the mark :P

I just speak the language I was taught by my parents. I may make some grammatical errors, misspell things from time to time and use big words inappropriately at times, but I consider myself well spoken and well educated. I also try not to judge other people by their accent, dialect, and the way they speak due to their location and upbringing. Bash away if that's your thing.

Well said, so considerate. It's a shame high ranking member(s) of staff don't think the way you do and treat players poorly in-game if they use lower-case. I fear for these players if they ever have to explain something to staff and are treated even poorer because they prefer lower-case.

Spelleng iz overratted noo mattre whut whay yu tink iz rite. Ets naut lyke et helbs annewon reed whut yu sai annewhay.

To come back on topic.

I see Cantr as a text world, so how things are typed is a part of the character. For example, on my last account my character Sterling Jackson had an accent or speech impediment (depending on how you looked at it) but instead of a auditory based accent, I decided on a visual, text based accent. Primarily switching As and Os when they were not at the beginning of words. So "I have been making a lot of iron for you duke." became "I hove been moking a lat of iran far yau duke." It was interesting to see how people treated him differently because of that.

I have three characters now that have regular text based accents or quirks. Again it's fun to see how people treat them differently, especially when the content of what they say is completely normal. It really plays into how the character develops and thus creates a richer game experience for me.

Sure, this is a game that should attract an older or more intelligent audience. But when we attract those who can't spell properly, come from a poor background and don't have a great education, should we treat them differently? If they are having fun? If this is their only escape from their hellish low-paid job? If this is the one game they play? What right does anyone have to spit in their face and look down upon them..

I don't feel sorry for those who can't spell or use grammar nicely. No, I feel sorry for those who are actually bothered by it.

Grow up and get a life.
