Re: End-of-Character Stories
nitefyre, it never really occured to me how much of a positive impact and influence you had on Cantr, both in folklore, literature, history and general storyline. Your characters sound so deep and interesting.
You should play again!

It was fun! But I couldn't re-capture the magical groove and creative confluence of forces that existed during those times.

Re: End-of-Character Stories
Absolutely not. Things seem to stay the same now, or just appear to be a repetition of something that's happened earlier.. any clan, group, army etc has already been done before. War, wierd loves, wierd characters, all done before. The way you described the exploration of new lands sounded like a new age for Cantr, something we won't see without massive new implementations or a restart of the game.
Although my email records only go back to character deaths in 2005, I can say that between 2008 and 2010, Cantr has not 'progressed' in any major ideological way. Every town has developed itself, each person has developed him or herself. On a macro level, when it comes to intercontinental integration, we see single towns accepting the culture of other countries.. but we don't see any MACRO development. No economy as such, no globalisation, no true connectedness..
Cantr is just a big land with hundreds of little tribes - sometimes, these tribes branch out to form a union of 3 or 4 towns, but that's it. It never goes beyond that.. sadly.

Cantr mechanics and player mentality do not allow it. At a certain point you need shepperds and sheep... and everyone wants to be a shepperd so nothing gets grouped up, organized and done on a ideological level.
If PLAYERS were encouraged to have characters join organizations, I think something could happen. But as it stands, you can do anything you want in Cantr all by yourself.

When (eventually) Cantrians invent global newscasts, the internet and the means of travel by airplane (or other very fast continental ways of travelling) and so on I believe globalization would be possible. At the moment one town hardly got a clue what happens in the next town.

This is true, and is the chief concern of simulating a society when there are no NPC's.

They'd just use it to form "flash-mobs" to kill the latest newspawn thieves, then go about their daily lives again.

Isolde de Roet 1735 2642 English:
Kendra Black wanted her to torture her long and slow for being a party to killing her friend. However, Jimmy Dean, a fellow prisoner, took advantage of the fact that Isolde was nearly dead and finished her off for her keys.
Little Wing 1781 2227 English:
Murdered by the MacGregors for being wounded in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had been wounded by animals and had run out of healing food. The MacGregors mistook her for someone else.
Wanda Lee Barkley 1884 2651 English:
Killed by Nate and his cronies on the road to Tirqui from Darwin. I have to admit...Nate came up with a devishly cunning strategy. He passed her a load of dung on the road so that her friend could not pass her anymore healing food.

SekoETC wrote:Hmm, this is interesting, I just figured Dust-eye was this one guy that Quinn and his cronies killed, but in-game we never found out who he was, we only heard from Judge (one of the newspawns helping Quinn, who turned against him) that they had killed a man but he didn't know the name of the location where he came from. I always assumed this had happened before Exle came back, but I checked the db for which day Dust-eye died, and then checked my turn reports for what was going on that day, and Exle had returned to Kiii by that point to report the murder of Laurenn Poxsider, so probably Quinn knew that people were coming to get him, so suspicions towards any travelers were natural, even if the person happened to come from a totally different direction. There's a lesson to be learned, always keep a diary or some note that mentions who you are and where you came from.
OMGosh! Judge was me! I played Judge! Wow...that was probably one of my favorite stories! I thought I did well playing the part, as my character was against Quinn from the beginning. I can not tell you how difficult it was to convince the rescuers of his good intentions without arousing Quinn's suspicions! He had to measure every word soooo carefully! That was a blast to play, and I was a bit sorry when it was finally over! haha!

Re: End-of-Character Stories
It would've been easier if you had known that people on the outside couldn't see us passing notes after I dragged you into the car. You had to make such a show out of it that it seemed blatantly obvious you were trying to cover up something. I didn't think you were trying to double-cross us but you might have been too afraid to act up since Quinn could've killed you easily if we failed to capture him. And it was pretty amazing that we did. If he had just kept running between the bike and the building, we never would've caught him. Jaina would've been ready to swap the car for Twirdy's life it had come to that but I'm glad it got resolved as it did.

Me too! I was so surprised we were successful! And you're right...at the time I didn't know they couldn't see us passing notes.....that would have made things much easier! LOL

Kai - Found an abandoned car in the mountains with a body inside and took it. Was killed by Queen Nora because they thought she stole it and then her friend called Nora inbred swine or something.
Jacob? - Was dragged into a building. In a random bilingual territory. Believe he spawned in a spanish town then traveled. Stopped at a town to collect food I think and then was drug into a building by two men. After trying to convince his captor (only remember him as cone hat guy because I forget what the girl in the room called him.) he was killed when the captors friend entered and said "Kill it."
only two notable deaths really

Re: End-of-Character Stories
Thorian Marls - grew up in the Seatown region, under that friendly leader that most people outside never seemed to like (Tammy?). He eventually sailed around the island, explored Omeo for a bit, and made his way to Teregotha (Shai/Sring-Sri). He had always tended to travel alone, thinknig that romantic relationships were a waste of time for a trader and resource shuffler. Eventually, he wrote a will offering to give all his possessions away and die alone at sea on some small boat, and gifted the Crane Clan his own ship. Later, he was picked up as crewmate on another fine ship and wound up 'stealing' it to continue his own adventures again when he thought the original owner had fallen asleep forever. Eventually, he gathered more resources, upgraded some things on the ship, and returned to Dung/Shai. He returned to Teregotha and picked up a young lady named Anytime, who finally cracked through that single heart of his. Unfortunately, she died and broke his heart before he could ask her to marry him. He decided a while after this, that he would find another lady-friend, to love, or lust-after even, as he was feeling ancient and his only experience in romance had died too soon. Luckily, the first town he stopped in seemed to have a fiery-haired woman who returned his flirtations. Hey met briefly for a quick romp on his boat, but were interrupted for an hour.
It was then that his heart gave out, pounding in excitement, and sure that his life was back on track, with one more adventure so close in his vision.

:O You're telling me he would have married Anytime?!?!?! Waaaaaah!!!!!!!
That's too bad man......I hate that I had to quit around that time! She adored Thorian, and I'm sorry to hear that his heart gave out. He was a great guy!
