Unlike most of the system messages I get and immediately remove from sight, this one I've kept on screen. Why? So I'd remember to post this thread!
I've been enjoying the unique experience that is Cantr for a couple of years now. There are those that have played much, much longer than that, and for good reason. Most long term Cantr players (let's call them Lifers) know that Cantr is a special type of game (or "Society Sim" or "RPG" or whatever the hell you want to call it, it doesn't matter). It's unlike any other out there, and for a text based game, as addictive as most "modern" MMO's, of which I play many. This is why we keep playing, keep playing through character ending CRB's, keep coming back when we've frustratedly sworn off Cantr forever.....
Best thing about it? It's FREE!
This brings me to my point, though. Nothing free lasts forever. I've seen players griping before about not wanting to donate, since they'd never be alright paying a monthly fee for something that's not completely "glitch free", or for a game that's understaffed. This misses the point entirely....Cantr will NEVER compete with an MMO when it comes to bang for your buck, getting what you payed for. On that note, though, no MMO offers the unique atmosphere and gameplay of Cantr.
The fact of the matter is, Cantr's losing money. Has been for two years....A free service that loses money....That doesn't bode well for it's continued existence. I'm not part of staff and I have no ties to Cantr beyond simply enjoying it immensely, and would hate to see it go the way of the dinosaur. If you're like me, and have never really thought about donating, now's the time. Go to your paypal account (I know you've got one!) and set up that small monthly donation. Then post a smug comment about how much you're helping to change the world! (hell, it's easier than solving an oilspill
Let us, the player base, get Cantr out of the red!
