This is definitely true. Cantr doesn't only consist of modern societies and neither should it.
On the other hand, halving the gathering rate of potatoes for example, isn't a major obstacle for developing civilizations. It would just mean that instead of spending one hour a day with gathering food, they would have to spend two.

Re: The power of food
-halve food production
-require fuel in harvesters
-introduce indoor raw food rot
I like Seko's idea, but I don't know if it's necessary.
The second half of yugo's suggestion has merit, but it might be too much too quickly. The more loaded the suggestion, the greater the odds of getting forgotten.
What we should avoid, however, is making the acquisition of food an all-consuming affair for primitive or sparsely populated towns. It's not much fun to gather food all the time because I have to.

Oh, one more thing:
The last alteration of the food system was a complete cluster f***. We need to identify the reasons why food was altered last time, what went wrong with that implementation, and how it was neutered *coughs* modified to correct it.

Exactly what is that last alteration you are referring to? As far as I remember the last alteration had something to do with smokers and the consumption rates of certain sorts of meat.

Might have been before your time, but the eating rates of raws were much lower than they are now.
