Good. Because the rest of us know.

Same thing as with the sealing of envelopes.

This not forgotten. Why would this not be something good to implement?

We could use them for bank notes, we could use them for birth certificates, certificates of citezenship, lots of things
In order to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan but also believe.

To continue pussyfooting around what I still think should be an open issue, there is no secure form of signature in game at this point, for fundamental reasons.
I think there ought to be, but along the lines of seals, not signatures. Signatures have no inherent weakness

What about make a new option for making notes, so that it takes the "copy" button away, then people could use really hard html and then it would be so complex that no one know how to make an exact duplicate, though it is possible to copy if you try really hard for a long time.

But that makes note copying into an OOC project, and a pretty easy one at that (just load the source HTML). Counterfeiting should be an in-character project.

Yes true but the honor system would have to be in place and those who are caught cheating will be dealt with. This should not stop this change from happening.

"Really hard" and "HTML" don't go together. HTML is extremely simple, at the level required for duplicating notes. More complex HTML is simply not applicable to the tasks required. I don't know of any form of existing language to facilitate the idea you suggest.

Without reading the entire thread, I'd say the best method is a signet ring and sealing wax approach, where you make a ring with some identifying text string, and maybe a number to represent the individual style of the ring. Then by using wax to make seals, the seals can be taken and from the imprint the ring can be forged (and this would duplicate the number) as opposed to simply using the same text string. Duplicating the ring by using the seal would be a difficult task due to completing it would give you an identical ring, such as a key copy, but harder because these things aren't meant to be copied.

Anyway, I suspect that has already been suggested and developed, but sometimes it helps to resuggest to take development in a different angle.

That is exactly what I have been suggesting, except I didn't think of it as a ring. But if it wouldn't be harder to do making the seals wearable would be cool. Especially if people can see the seal text if you are wearing the ring.

Why not do both?
