Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
Well you can start with basic things like body type, skin tone and hair color. If they're weaker than average then they're likely to be frail or skinny or have bad posture. Someone who's weaker than average but a good fighter might be described as nimble. If someone is awkward at a lot of skills that require finesse, they could be described having big, clumsy-looking hands. About skin tones, if your town or region has cotton then it's likely to be warmer than an area that has hemp, so characters are likely to be at least tanned, and having darker hair. Likewise if the location has tropical fruits. I could try to pull some stats on basic attributes by spawn town or at least spawning island and see if there's any correlation.

Try asking others around you too, oocly of course. I can't see anyone getting angry just because you ask them something like (ooc:Out of curiosity, how do you see my character?). It gives you perspective on the picture you put forth.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
If I was to spawn a new character, they wouldn't have a description until they were about 30 as it takes time to build a personality and image. And with the way I RP I can get away with that, too!
So don't worry if it takes you time to "figure things out". However the character I'm talking about, I'm rather certain the player knows EXACTLY how his/her character looks. Its a little frustrating.

I'm surprised by how many older chars don't have descriptions. You'd think if someone has been playing that long they'd have some idea or would be interested in the game enough to fill it out. I've got a couple new ones who I haven't figured out yet but they will have at least a little blurb in there at some point. Only a few of mine started life with a very clear image.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
I have a clear view of my only ancient character left (and have since it was young), but I have yet to bother to try and write a description for it because it is not around people at all and hasn't been for a long, long, long time. It's also difficult translating what I used to imagine it looked like to what it would probably look like now due to aging.
Though I might have to make an effort soon...

The problem with older chars is that your description has a much higher chance to conflict with the images others have of your char. I also have the problem that I can't remember how I rped the chars appearance a year ago, so I end up thinking about the things I might or might not have said until I get fed up.

Do you have to make them age? I mean, technically since they don't die of old age, they don't age.. (I myself made one age, but not another). Just a thought...

Ah, I hadn't thought about that or if someone wanted to portray aging as Hermi mentioned. My chars this round aren't that old yet.

No, but I think that they would, even if it doesn't necessarily cripple them.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
Some of my characters are "aged" and showing it, but others only show it in minor traits or not at all, yet. I believe that a few of my characters have had sheltered, quiet and gentle lives therefore they aren't showing as many wrinkles, gimped attributes etc.

Well Jos intended to implement natural death from age, so I'd say yes..
It comes down to that implied vs explicit thread.. We can safely assume Cantr isn't a 'magic' world by any measure, it follows the same laws as here. We established in the thread that there must be gravity (or things would float around) and thus aging DOES occur if there's gravity. (thats how wrinkles occur, after all).

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
Wrinkles are caused by thinning of the skin that leads to dryness, among other things.

The real question is though how fast a character ages. A year is a pretty arbitrary concept and who says that a Cantrian ages in 60 Cantrian years the same as an earthling would do in 60 earth years? A person of 30 Mars years would look pretty aged while a person of 30 Mercury years wouldn't even be in puberty. It all comes down to how long a year (and a day actually) is in terms of cellular age.

My characters appear as old as they feel.
