More Posts Within A Thread (for Suggestions Forum)

When a thread reaches 10, 15 or 20 posts, most forums create a 'page 2' etc of a thread.

For the Suggestions thread, I think it'd be great if the threshold was 30, 40 or more (preferably not more).

This allows us to see the 'train of thought' among posters with more ease, and is less broken.

I don't know if it applies to others, but personally, I prefer to read 'new' suggestions with few or no extra pages. Easier to grasp what's going on.

Also, if others like this idea, it's not hard to implement.. I think it's about 15 mouse-clicks away from this page.

I am quite sure you could set how many posts to view per page in the old forum. Can't find that option anywhere in the User Control Panel at the moment though. Has it been disabled to save bandwidth?

Hmm, interesting. I know that in modern forums, the Administrator sets the number of posts that can be made in a sub-forum when they create the sub-forum.. never knew older forums had that functionality.

If it's an issue of saving bandwidth, all good. But it'd be nice, if others agree, to have longer suggestion threads.

Pagination has always existed in web based forums. Maybe not always, but for 15 years for sure.

I think I know how to do it, but it would affect all forums and users. I don't know if we want that, especially as I don't really see the need for it.

I just tried it on my own forum.. mine is a year younger than this one, so not sure if it's the same..
..but it appears that I can only change posts per page for the whole forum..

And from the help documents on the official phpBB site, it looks like you have to tweak the forums to allow that functionality.. Though I may be wrong.

Well on other forums it's usually User CP > Board Preferences> Edit Display Options > Posts Per Page (or something similar)

However I don't see it on Cantr forum.

For personal options, anyway.

That's for the entire forum though, isn't it? Or can you specify it for sub-forums?

That depends on the forum.

Most do it for all posts, period, though.
