Medicine

Postby RyceLandeer » Sat Jun 05, 2004 9:20 pm

Got this idea from the other thread but I think it deserves its own for discussion.

I really like the idea of medicines...mixing different food together to make higher power healing foods

Yeah could work.

As far as i can see the medidines produced in game would have to be the natural herbal remedy stuff that doesn't work in real life.
So in-game the medicines would just be concentrations of pre-existing healing foods.
Is there a mortar and pestal in the game? because if there is then making medicines from other foods would require it.

There are going to be medicines, Resources Department just needs to work out the details. We're going to do it in the form of herbialism (Natural Herbal Remidies) rather than mixtures of food. You go crush some carrots and mushrooms and see if that heals you :P - But I bet if you crushed some parsley and aregineo (Sp?) and heated it in a kettle, you could cure your runny nose.

I like the idea of medicines, but it would be nice for new plants (herbs) to be introduced that were only useful when properly prepared, rather then a continuation of the current healing foods.

Herbs are very effective medicine on their own. 6 years ago I went from here in Florida to Kentucky to take a "working vacation" and see some friends and family. It was 95 degress F when I left Florida, it was 25 degrees and snowing when I got to Kentucky 9 hours later, two days after I got there I went to work with my uncle building houses, that was on like Jan 3 of that year, two weeks later I was sick, and it turned into pnuemonia two weeks after that. I went through two prescriptions of Z Pack, and the biggest shot I've ever had full of penacillian over a period of two months and although I didn't get worse, I never got better. Then I started taking a herbal mix called H.A.S (can't remember what it stood for but it was a mix of about 30 different things) that my grandmother gave me a bottle of, 4 days later it was impossible to tell I'd ever been sick.

Actually, you're dead on the nail there. The Medicine system that I'm proposing (And just waiting to be approved) will have you prepare the herbs into drinkable mixtures.

Once Resources' new chairman wakes up, we can do our business. If he approves it, say, now... I can have the Medicine system in by tommorow (But not necessarly public :P)

Thank you for that, but we've got a listing already which has 84 Medicinal Herbs and Oils, with their History and Uses already :) - Plus, it's already wirtten out, the entire Medicine System.

Like I keep saying: Just waiting for it to be approved.

In the case it's not approved, then I'll take a look at the site you provided and make due changes to the system :) - But, like I said, thank you. It's nice to know there are still helpful people.
