Bota bag

A bota bag is a traditional Spanish wine skin. Typically, it is made of leather, and is used to carry wine, although any liquid will do. Traditionally, bota bags were lined with tree sap or other resins to prevent liquids from seeping through. Modern bota bags have a latex liner. It was very handy for Spanish travellers.

A porron, porrón, or porró (Catalan: porró in the singular, porrons in the plural) is a traditional glass wine pitcher, typical of Catalonia but well-known in other parts of Spain. It resembles a cross between a wine bottle and a watering can. The top of the bottle is narrow and can be sealed off with a cork. ... Porrons are most commonly filled with regular wines, either white or red, but are also used to drink Cava, and a smaller version filled with a sweet, dessert wine

I'm sorry, but that thing looks like an Erlenmeyer flask with an erection.

And I think there's already water skins in the game. You could always translate them to Bota bag in Spanish if you wanted.

But waterskins are machines and not containers, right? Maybe there could be an improved waterskin that's a container and they could translate that to bota bag.

And how come we don't have even the basic bags and purses and pouches? Was it because someone wanted them to have descriptions like clothing does? I would rather have pouches and leather bags that are just a name under (S)He's carrying than not have them at all. (Yes, I'm trying to turn this into a general portable container suggestion thread.)

(supporting Seko's attempt)

the bags could start from simple hide ones, through leather, different types of cloth, sailcloth for sailors... almost thousands of possibilities if you count all the different styles the materials can be used in.
I didn't know how much I missed a simple hide bad till I got one in FTO  but seriously, I don't think there are any storage items available for those having access to just the basic materials, which really is a shame.

The water skin is a machine, but that's no obstacle technically. A storage capacity could be added without problem. There's a logical problem however. If a water skin is full of wine, how are you supposed to gather water with it?

I think we have two options. Either we get ProgD to implement a piece of code that makes it impossible to use a container as a machine while something is stored inside (this would allow us to add storage capacity to buckets, too, by the way) or we implement it as a separate item.

Why not implement it so that the water goes IN the waterskin when the project completes? That makes the most sense. Then we can make tanks to hold gas so we can stop putting that into our pockets too.

Sounds like a logical idea. But waterskins deteriorate and if they're added to a repair project, the contents would vanish. There should be a check that doesn't allow repairing things if there's something inside. But stuff can also crumble away if it's not repaired. I don't think it should be too difficult to move things to the parent location of the container if the container crumbles away.

So why not just implement required containers for liquids and gases, and set the rot rate for these things to 100%, so if they're dropped on the ground, they disappear entirely at the rot tick. Liquids and gases would go directly into the containers at project completion, and would be added to projects/eaten directly from the container.

Sounds a bit extreme to me, but anything less would probably be just a half-...ed solution

I think it would be a good plan for the future, but there should certainly be more options for containers and people should be given enough time to get prepared. Also people should be able to specify which container they want to put the gathered resource, because if you for example gather water from a well, you could only fit a small amount in a bucket so you couldn't start longer projects if the water went into the bucket, but if you could for example specify that the water was automatically placed into a water tower, you could set up larger projects. Unless the well itself was turned into a container and the gathered water appeared in there. It would seem a bit weird... But this system could be extended to go for other resources as well, you could harvest potatoes directly into a silo instead of having them end up unnaturally on the ground where they rot before you can log in to move them. Or you could choose to gather food into a container on your person so that if you happen to get the eating sickness, you wouldn't accidentally eat it overnight.
