I agree with Echo and if it is such an idea....YOU should use it yourself. If your characters are too young and not wealthy enough, play them out until they are and try your ideas on your own (providing they live that long).

I actually like this idea, and have been looking for a way to push something like it IG, and if I have my way, we can see something sprout up, but not for a long time.

This has been attempted several times in the past that I am aware of, however it always seemed to fall apart, including an attempt one of my past chars was involved in. Good idea but I just don't see something like this happening, least not any time soon with the state of things. Personally though I would love to see this happen.

Like I said, my attempt is gonna be years in the making, but planning this out can only give it a better chance of working.

EchoMan wrote:I think all of this suggestion is just OOC information. What do you want? 25% of the players of prominent characters to vote yes? Fine, implement your ideas in your town or w/e, but don't lobby on the forums for everyone to adopt a commercial civic. Let places evolve as they do. If your ideas are successful when you implement them they will spread. Maybe.

Huh? How's it OOC information?

Where do you get the ideas for your characters? In-game?

All your characters are based on OOC knowledge, information and bias.

I'm not saying 'everyone go do this'. I'm giving the idea to one character who is a businessman to implement the system in this fashion, as opposed to previous attempts.

And I think I just gave away the identity of one of my new characters to the player who was playing with him as I posted this :P (Yori?)

That would be Teregothia, and I think, in my experience, this is the only place it would work. IF Brenda didn't die. There would be a chance. But the system that is in place works easily and fairly well. Besides my town runnin' out of food all the time!

Mikki sounds pretty OOCly opposed to such an idea...

Or she knows her characters thoughts and actions better than you do and knows that it is not something her character would go for.

Kind of like Naedell would prefer to slit your throat if you start talking about changing her ways in her town....Not ooc, just the way she is. She's not one to have anyone tell her what and how to do something. Just the way some characters are.

Well money would be great. Might generate a little more interest that way. I have a character whos working on a money system for their town, and I think it will work well in that location, but I doubt it will spread...

But lets consider that "getting things" isnt really all that interesting after awhile. Once you have some fancy clothes, tools, weapons, a house and a vehicle, the ladder runs out. And by that time, your pretty bored with the idea anyway. Still money would at least generate interest and activity from some players, but its unlikely to take off across towns IMO.

Well that's exactly the issue and your character is actually working -against- this idea.

This idea is principled on the theory that a collective group of towns accepting a single coinage system, fully supplied with a set of rules and explanations, and creating desires and wants by banning the gathering of resources, would create an effective and useful money system.

Like I said before, it's an opportunity to put value to otherwise valueless things. Ie, in a town where food grows naturally, food will finally become valuable and sought-after. In a town that has cod, it will become valuable. Mountains may see an increase in population as town leaders venture there with the money system in mind, making people pay before they dig stone. The cheapest offer will prevail.

Of course, like I said in the original post, it probably won't ever work but it's one of the few theories which has a chance.

The main problem is players who have characters such as Mikki, who instantly say no without even considering it. Selfishness and stability and greed and full control of a town without potential influences from others is a huge problem for some characters, even if it will benefit their town.
And sadly this is the problem with Cantr in general.

You can say whatever you want to about my char(s) saying no about the whole idea if it makes you sleep at night. My char(s) that do run towns already have a very nice system that they have and the town *and I say town and not my char* is doing great. Not to mention you say something about selfishness.. well until you actually pinpoint which chars of mine run what towns, you have nothing to go off of.

And until you read someone's proposal for a monetary scheme, you have nothing to go off.

And like I said before, I know my chars and I know what they would be interested in. And any type of coin system... they wouldn't. THEY enjoy things the way they are regardless. You can think what you want, cause truthfully I could care less.
