Combat System

Postby RyceLandeer » Thu Jun 03, 2004 3:55 am

I think the combat system needs some work...

Joe Bob can walk into a town and attack 40 people.
Only 5 of the townsfolk are awake in the next 5 hours and only 5 hit him back.
So Joe Bob runs around town with his sabre hitting each person one time.
Joe Bob gets 35 more attacks than 40 people in a town? It doesnt make sense.

At the very least each character should have a max amount of people he can attack in a day. I think 5 would be a fair number.

BUT Realistically

If your attacking people your going to do so one at a time.

Say your in a scuffle and its like 5v5

Its probably going to be more like 1v1 1v1 1v1 1v1 1v1 until one guy kills the guy he was fighting. So then it would be 2v1 1v1 1v1 1v1...And then another guy dies...etc.
What wouldnt happen is
A1 hits B1, then hits B2, then hits B3, then hits B4, then hits B5
A2 hits B1, then hits B2,........................................
A3....................................................
A4..................................................
A5.....................................................
B1 hits A1, then hits A2...............................
etc

Heres some ideas

1. Someone hits you, they cant hit you again until you hit them back...unless a day passes in which case you can attack again.

2. Make Combat a project:

Joe Bob attacks John and hits for however much damage.
This Initiates the Project and John Automatically strikes back
(New Project) Combat: Joe Bob vs John
From then on they attack eachother every so often automatically(once a day, or half a day, or hour, or turn, we can vote on it)

Say Joe Bob's friend Steve wanted to help Joe Bob,
He can Click the (H) by Joe Bobs name like you would help Joe Bob drag something.
That would make Steve attack John and he would now start attacking with the rest.
Now Sally wants to help John she clicks the (H) by Johns name and she starts attacking Steve, Steve and Sally will now attack eachother until one of them falls.

Then more could join the same way.

Supposing there were three parties ivolved in the fight, or four or five, sure it makes a helluvalota sense.

I think it sould be done.

I proposed limiting attacks to one a game hour per character, but retaining the current day limit of striking the same character so a person could attack a town technically 8 times, but becomes more like 5 times if they are online a good amount of the day. RKL was pretty adamant about once a minute though, still don't see what changes that would do though. The first idea here though is pretty interesting and makes combat feel more like combat and a brawl. Of course there should be a "nonviolence" option for characters to choose where they won't auto-retaliate if they decide it would be in their character's nature. Of course they could strke back when ever they wanted to. I was going to say it wouldn't initiate the project like described, but that could be abused to allow for someone to sneak attack and not get hit back so I suppose the only way that'd happen is if both parties had nonviolence on, then it'd act like current combat.

only problem is I dont see it working while traveling, since traveling is already a project type thing.

Maybe you could have a project "Spar" where both attack until one has 15% health...that way people who had disputes could settle things without killing eachother. And I know in one town I was in they were talking about starting some sort of fight club. I think it would be fun..and people could bet. and all that good stuff. Maybe someday we will have a collusium and have gladitorial matches..heh good stuff

We shouldn't be making combat a project. I like it the way it is
