Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
The gram as a unit of measure in Cantr has no resemblance to the gram in the metric system. It is simply a shared word, nothing more. A gram in the real world is a measurement of mass in a three part mass/volume/density system. It is not clear what exactly the Cantr gram (Cg) measures, but what does seem apparent is that the mass/density/volume system does not apply in Cantr as it does in the real world. So, you're all wrong.

I'm gonna agree with doug on this one in hopes it stops this stupid imperial vs metric, what you -should- do type argument.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
While we do not know exactly what a Cantrian gram is, we can make one estimate based on the information available: Cantrians buildings do not have roofs.
I reach this assumption based on the fact that Cantrians have been known to eat up to 200 Cg's of food per day, yet 10 cantrians can fit in a building that weighs 10,000 Cg's per day. This mean's that cantrians can eat up to 2% of a building's weight per day, yet surprisingly, their weight never changes. To put that in perspective, let's say the average human eats about 2 lbs of food per day and lived in a cottage modeled after cantr in weight, that would mean up to 10 people would have to fit in a cottage that weighed only 100 lbs. Or the typical weight of 2 square feet of the floor of a house. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/951550/calc ... et-formula
To top all of this off however, cantrians also weigh 60,000 grams. Therefore, cantrians weigh more than 2 stone building. So all of this weight has to go somewhere and my hypothesis is it's stored straight into the fat on the heads of all cantrians (which will explain a lot) and that their heads act as natural roofs (hence why they are never cold, hot, sunburnt, wet from rain, etc.).

I say kilograms cause I don't see things weighing as Cantr says. I see them a lot heavier.. so shoot me. Maybe its density?
Also, a SINGLE UNIT of measure is NOT a system, try again.
I have to say, though, on a general scale of things I'm very disappointed with character descriptions. So many characters not only act alike they all now look alike or at least horribly, horribly similar. Old people don't look old, every scar I've seen is on the chin or ear... its rather annoying. I ask to much of my fellow Cantr players, I know... but could we have some in world diversity?

Cantrians are immortal. How may old looking vampires have you ever seen?

And if you actually paid attention to what I wrote, you would see that I said that the gram is the mass PART of the mass/density/volume system. If you're going to act like an ass, get your facts right at least. Try again.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
I'm sorry for creating this flame war.
My argument, however, was simple. I'll rephrase, and explain in a logical and reasonable sequence of thoughts.
Issue:
Inches or Centimetres for height???
First thought:
These are two different types of measurement.
Second thought:
There is the Imperial and Metric. Let's pick one.
Third thought:
Does Cantr 'borrow' any Imperial measurements?
No..
Does Cantr 'borrow' any Metric measurements?
Yes.. good! This makes things easier to decide.
Fourth thought:
Is Cantr a Global game?
Yes.
So we don't need to adhere to any particular measurement.
Final thought:
Cantr is global, and already uses 1 metric measurement (grams).. so rather than go with Imperial, let's stick with Metric.
Doesn't matter if the metric measurement is used properly, or is actually literally relates to the metric in real life.. we may as well stick to it.
I hope this makes things nice and easy for people like Dudel to understand my train of thought, and see how I came to my conclusion.
It's my opinion, my idea. It isn't correct, and that's why we have a forum to discuss it. Please point out if you disagree with my logic, and if you have a better, more logical, more reasonable train of thought - please provide it!
edit/p.s. : just because we say something and agree on it here, doesn't mean you actually have to use CM. Continue using inches, if that's easier for you. Just as we have to convert your measurements, you have to convert ours, so we learn from it and you learn from it. It can be quite handy.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
Instead of exact amounts, I used descriptions like "shorter than average" for my characters. I think most people have a good idea of the average height of a person. And it's often not in precise measurements, which is another reason to avoid them. Personally, I couldn't tell you how tall someone was by looking at them. They closest I could come is average, slightly short, really tall, etc. That's why they have those measured marks on the doors at 7-11 (convenience store).

This is actually a good idea. I can't tell using centimetres OR inches, and we ARE playing a global game so perhaps we should be more considerate and use averages.
Cantr -does- use averages rather than exacts for descriptions of qualities. This is a quality, not a quantity so perhaps we, the active role-player, should adopt a similar approach.

Re: Got Your Descriptions Done?
Yes, I just use descriptive words to explain my characters' heights. I'll say they're "tall" or "short" or "average". There's really no need for exacts.
