Programming could, but I can't. If we work with the repair state, there is no such thing as a dead battery, only several degrees of 'damaged' batteries.
Theoretically we could create a project that takes a battery of any quality and returns a fresh battery, but that seems a little unelegant.

Speeding up projects is something that would definitely need additional code, if don't want to create separate projects, one with batteries and one without.

Maybe the use of a battery could speed production time when paired with certain tools?

I think this idea is practical, and sounds simple to imply. I would really like to see this battery/fuel idea move forward is it presents an alternative fuel, albeit not the most effecient form definitely it would provide a means of fuel for those who are in desolate locations. Also I can really see this adding to RP if batteries were required for electrical tools.

I would think that if a battery that is not at 100% could be a used battery, and once it is a 0% it is a depleted battery. Either or could be put into the Battery charger machine to return a 100% one.

Couldn't the projects be sped up like resource gathering is with certain tools? If the character has the battery in their inventory, it could speed up the project they are working on, provided the project could use a powered version of the tools required.

Of course...we can always go this route....

Currently it's impossible to make the tool type influence the speed of a project. Otherwise we would have made bone knives less effective than regular ones long ago. The only way would be to create a separate project.

Ahh, good point and never really saw it like that!

I just assumed that since it was done with resource gathering it would be migrated or copied over to use with other types of projects. Eh, I am still learning the basics of programming, so I know it isn't as easy as a copy & paste most times, but damn that would be nice!

I agree. Among other things, it would help us remove the clutter caused by three different sizes of pots.

And bananas?
    manual..........275
    bone knife...495
    knife................550

They can do that with gathering projects but not manufacturing.

You couldn't say build a bone shield or carve a string jig faster with an iron knife than a bone knife.

Yes, manufacturing projects. Gathering is pretty different.

Solar panels instead of batteries? There's apparently no night...

When motor vehicles are built, do they come with 1000 petrol? Or was that just a one-time gift when fuel was implemented?

That was supposed to be a one time thing.
