Fire for rp purposes

Postby SekoETC » Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:02 am

I just came to think, since Cantr has supported automatic projects for a while already, how about the option to put fire in a fireplace or a small fire pit just to create imaginary warmth? It would be an automatic project with a set duration of one day (or something less) and would require wood for fuel. It wouldn't need to produce anything, although it would be kinda interesting if it produced ashes.

Imagine also an option with logs of any size... I don't know if that would be possible since those are objects not resources, but it would be nice :)

Or perhaps timber?

Isn't it already RP'ed and assumed that a small fire pit... has a fire in it?

The wood you use when grilling meat doesn't just mash together with the meat..

I think it would be a good idea. We could use it in fireplaces too. You know, you and your baby drinking wine, sittin' on a fur rug in front of the fireplace. Think about it what could it hurt?

Indeed. And yes, logs can be used on projects, although that would be especially wasteful, that you first spent half a day or so shaping a log only to burn it.

If I know that I won't need a fireplace for actual cooking, I would just start a project, add some wood and have my fire for as long as I want.

Maybe animal agressiveness could be higher when there isn't a fire lit outside. :?

Consumption! This is a really, really good idea.

If you'd prefer a RD solution, we could probably also implement Seko's original idea of burning wood for its ash, which could then be refined to soda (technically potash) or fertilizer.
This would have to be very ineffective as soda is a resource of considerable importance, so the consumption aspect would still work.

A repulsing effect of fireplaces "in use" could still be implemented later when somebody has the spare time.

I was just thinking, isn't ash used to make lye, and that in turn is used for many purposes?

But the idea about keeping animals away is a good idea as well.

Well, we substitute lye by soda in the process of making biodiesel already (you can transform the one into the other pretty easily), so we can treat lye/soda/potash as one resource.

As a possible application only soap would come to my mind right now and that would be a pure rp item/resource at the moment.

Soap would be good, although it would be better if it was consumable, even if it didn't actually do anything.
