Definitely sad to see someone leave over the death of a character specifically when you have 15 choices and always an option when one dies to start another. So many possibilities.
A lot of people lose favorite characters or characters they put a lot of time into, when death happens, you find a new favorite. It's what I did. It's a part of the game unfortunately.

The sad part is if he dies, I might quit playing. I put so much time into that guy... oh well. :\
Ah you were the captain of the Planet U (tell me quickly if you want this edited)..
..My friend started playing (his first character was with you) and was telling me all about you and the ship and the massive pile of repair projects

Don't give up over one character.. The loss might be painful, and f'ing annoying (I can tell you that from experience, I've had some up'n'comings that died early) but you have to keep at it, keep perfecting yourself and become more careful and alert.

(unless your character ISN'T alert, and is actually stupid

Why try to make another character have a similar plan? That kind of seems wrong and trespasses a little bit on the "all of your characters are different individuals" part of the game.

Well, the vague general idea of that plan. None of the specifics, of course.
