Storing character death events on the server.

Postby Doug R. » Thu Jan 21, 2010 1:48 pm

I'd like to see character death events stored on the server. One of the top ten support requests is unreceived death events for a character, and it's an ugly process to get this information for the player.

I realize that all data is purged from a character upon death, but maybe that policy should be revisited as well if space is not a concern. I know there are many times when the Players Department has their investigations stymied by purged character information after death.

And I would like the daily reports to be sent automatically for the players' emails. We need to have certainty that the players receive the report of his acts everyday obligatorily.

Cantr II is a social simulator. What is not working is due a problem in the society.

Automatically emailing daily reports is irrelevant to the current suggestion. Since events (and observers) get deleted in a week, I don't see why observer records pointing to a dead person couldn't be left on the server until they time out. I guess that way the events (and the character) would appear normally in the day reports even after the person's death, so the player could get them that way.

Good suggestion, Seko. The only problem with this is that it's not just the events that get purged, but -everything-. Travel records, who they knew (but not who knew them), etc. Does that data really take up so much room that it needs to be purged?

The events purge would have to be teased out of that process if we were to save them for the week.

How about instead of emailing the user showing the death record the next time he logs in. After he clicked okay to clear the spot then you can delete everything.

What gets purged doesn't seem consistent since I've noticed that it might for example store which people a dead person has hit, but if a person has been dead for a long time then it doesn't show who they killed or hit even if you knew they killed several people. It could have some sort of a process that deletes stuff linking to characters with death date that's current date -7 or more. Then stuff wouldn't stay there forever but also wouldn't get wiped instantly.

The PD might still need it.

Hold the slot for seven days after death?
