It's the American way.
Uh... isn't that the opposite of what "the American way" is supposed to be?
"supposed to be" is the key there. It has somehow gotten twisted into a sense of unrealistic self-entitlement.

WELCOME TO AMERICA! Give me your stuff. I deserve it... cause I'm American.
Dudel is proud to be an American, despite it's irritations.

I sometimes hear some complaints about using 'pride' to describe the feeling you have towards nationality (since 'pride' 'shoul d' describe a feeling towards a voluntary action, what is not true). I'm not completely sure about my opinion on the matter, but I think pride would be the correct thing to be felt if you actively work to preserve and give continuity to your heritage (like passing on the stories of your ol' granpa, or keeping with tradition - in Dudel's case, Cracker tradition, I don't know. I think old stock colonists from Florida are rare).
Anyway, this was a half rant/thought. I'm usually thinking about nationalism, since it is a constant issue in my life (I'm pretty into it too. Tried to hit a friend once because he fakekicked the national flag).
Also, I ignored the general silliness of previous posts. Because I took my serious pills.

I profoundly despise nationalism. I find it to be a substitute for a healthy ego and identity--borrowing a collective, mythologized, generalized identity from generations before you, whose actions are entirely unrelated to you, your character or your own accomplishments. Feeling pride towards the portion of turf you happened to evacuate a vagina from is arbitrary and counterproductive.

Well most of my family isn't from Florida. I'm one of the few actually born here but I do have lots of stories via my grandparents and even parents which should be passed down but I'm not sure if they are relevant to America itself.
I guess I'm just happy to not be not American. I like my country... don't know about pride now that I think on it.
And I like sillyness it's what gets me through my day.

No...she said swims is still swims upside down. But if you just flip it upside down, the S's would be backwards, and the w would become an m...so it would be smiws with backward s's...then you flip the word as a whole, and it's swims again..lol
