Removing "Unsubscribe" Button

Postby Rob Maule » Mon Jan 11, 2010 6:01 pm

I'd like to see this button removed from the game:

It's only true purpose is to allow a player to remove themselves from the game. I'd like to instead fall back on the system that kills off their characters if they haven't logged in for a certain amount of time, which provides the same function. The pros are many, and the cons are few (probably nonexistent).

Well, killing a char outright is much more considerate of your fellow players than letting him die over 20 days. If someone made up their mind to leave the game, we shouldn't force them to leave their characters behind to die a year later. There should be a delay of a few days between clicking the X and cancelling the account though. Many might regret their impulsive decision to leave the game after they slept over it.
Pretty in pink.

I agree with you Piscator. I think there should at the least be a delay of some kind.

Maybe a short delay, but that kills off the final heroic gesture - the handing things to a loved one before collapsing, or the impression someone gave once of having died of the sneezing sickness.
I've never used the button, but I believe that now you have an "Are you sure?" second chance, which was not always the case.

How about changing the X's cause?

So when you click it, your characters have 1 day until they die.

This gives you time to finalize everything.

Also, perhaps you can also stop the timer if you change your mind?

This is a middle ground between all the suggestions already posted.

Click the button - gives you a day. After that day is up, require an account password to be entered to finalize the unsubbing?

I think that button should make the clicker's computer explode :x

This is what most online games do a) to avoid account hackers griefing easily and b) because people do change their minds from heat-of-the-moment decisions.

one time i was seeing tv with the CANTR and my cousin (5 years old) clicked the button.... luckly was some kind of "do you really want to delete it?"

Maybe we should do it smaller.

I click that darn X at least once per week when I'm in a hurry to log out (whatever reason I may have to log out since minutes are free, I don't know).

How about an email being sent with a confirmation code? (have I suggested this before?)
