Grouping Items

Well, here's my idea; seeing as tools and such can stack up very fast, especially bone and stone tools and weapons, why not group them together once 3 or 4 are dropped in an area? Because there are some places that take a while to load for me, all because there are too many single objects.

I have no experience with coding, so I don't know how easy this would be, but I think it would make handling weapons and tools in the game a lot easier. Have items be grouped by type and state.

Just thinking.

Well, they are kinda grouped by state already. Deterioration is saved as a number between 0 and 10000, so it's highly unlikely two items in a place have the same status.

I generally agree with the idea though. Maybe items could be displayed stacked unless we click on the pick up (or a show all) button, in which case we would get the full list. A bit like with the activity screen, where some projects are filtered by default.

By grouping items in different deterioration states, i meant it in a very general idea. Like, group all crumbling bone knives, all old wooden trowels, etc.

a little tip.

When you press a link, your PC send to the server: pick up this object. Than the server interpreted the signal, actualise the DB and than he sent the new informations back.

What you can make is:
If you wanna pick up 10 items, klick fast at the 10 pick up buttons (your PC send 4 or 5 of this to the server and than he actualise the DB and send you the 5 changes back.

(You mustn't wait that the server send you the actualise data back. You can pick up everything and than wait for the respond.)

What Saalko is trying to say, is that you can click 'pick up' on several items before the next page loads. This cuts down on time spent picking objects up, but I believe a lot of players already know this. :wink:

Yes, I do know how to do that. But my point is not about picking things up, it's about keeping them on the ground and not having the Objects section be filled with 24 crumbling bones clubs, all in a row. It'd be a lot easier for someone to find what they need if there weren't insane amounts of copied items lying around. If they were grouped together, it would make picking things up quite a bit easier.

Stacking items, period, is never harmful to a game, EVER.

It allows to save space within game interface (See: Remove Clutter) as well as makes the game environment "easier to navigate".

This would also increase crumbling rates, if done correctly, cause characters would pull the strongest item from the pile rather (although the strongest/least crumbled is usually near the top or at the top).

It might also be interesting if items on the ground wile stacked weren't labeled as "new, etc" and indeed were just a pile of the same tool.

Makes people pay more attention or at least makes the decomposition more then a tedious chore that must be slowly counteracted.

If I have a lot of items that clutter up a place I usually set them up for repair. This way they are on the activity page instead of the object page. This also stops the rotting of the items. This is just a way I get the primitive items out of the way. If someone wants one they can repair it.
